Mazda Connect (New Infotainment System)

Re: the bolded part. Have you found a way to disable this? I have not got around to pulling out the Nav system manual yet. It is like you can't shut off the Nav.

Out of curiosity why would you want to turn that off? More screen real estate would be the only thing I could think of.

Not even that. I just don't need useless information always changing at the top of my display. I could claim it is distracting, but it isn't really :)

I just think you should be able to disable it. It might be useful out of town but not where I live.

... Is there a way to turn off the Nav altogether, until I need it? I have never had a car with factory Nav before so I am not sure if it is always suposed to be on?

The 2016's are so new that I am just kind of looking for others' opinions and experiences and posting my own.

I just heard my stereo for the first time tonight. Yes of course I've listened to music on it before but it's always been HD Radio, XM, Pandora etc...while driving. Tonight, while parked in my garage, I put Ziggy Stardust in the CD player with all the windows shut. I know it's Bose and they don't have the best rep among audiophiles but man was I impressed. Yeah I miss the booming base from the sub in my truck when bumping some Weezy but I think I'll just leave this system alone.

US 2016 Owners: On navigation equipped models, is there a real time traffic feature included? Thanks.

I think you can turn off everything but the clock display, it may be in 'personal settings', but i have not gotten to that yet. From what I understand...it shows the street locations in case of an 'serious' accident, and automatically calls 911 for you--so, it passes that information along to the dispatchers/responders. Or, if it is not a very serious accident, you will then be able to relay the location along for police or other emergency responders.

Yes, in settings you can turn off all display except for the clock. :)

According to the manual, real time traffic is included.

I just took delivery on a 2016 Touring without Nav. It has a HD radio based traffic map feature with color coded routes to show what the the traffic is like. Just like Google Maps with traffic enabled. A nice surprise...

Do you subscribe/pay to XM traffic or another service?

No, I do not subscribe to anything. According to the nav manual, NAVTEQ -(Garmen) is the supplier of the information for mapping/traffic.

Are you sure its real-time traffic? Wouldn't it have to be hooked up to a network for that?

I thought I read in the manual that the traffic is based off of "typical patterns". Meaning the SD card is loaded with pre-set traffic data pending on the time and day. I also remember reading for best results they recommend to disable the trafic feature during holidays or non-business weekdays.

Well, that's definitely a downgrade from the Tom Tom.

I use my phone for Nav anyway (which of course shows traffic). It's so much easier telling Google to take me to a place by name than it is to look up the address and put it into the Nav. Plus, I like voice guidance but not over my car speakers when I'm trying to listen to music (which is about 90% of the time when I'm driving). So I've got the Nav on my phone running and the map in the dash to see where I'm going.

On a side note I recently discovered Waze. I love the police reporting feature. It's a little buggy though otherwise I'd try and use it to replace Google Maps.

1+ on Waze. I use that as my primary navigation app, heheh.

Historical data and HD traffic are two different sources of traffic data. The 2016 with NAV has both. So, no, it's not really a downgrade.

I'm not familiar with the pre 16' nav, so I could be wrong, but again unless it hooks up to your phone or something, I would doubt it had live traffic data without a some kind of network connection.
