If you could convince Mazda to assemble any combination of their current parts to make the car for you, what would it be?

For me? A Mazda 5 Body with the AWD system and engine from the MazdaSpeed 6. Really not all that radical. I would even be happy with the engine and FWD system from the Mazdaspeed 3 in the 5.

aha, here's another: RX-8 basic body/chassis but with inline 5-cylinder engine, 3.5-3 litres. I call it.. the new MX-6

That same 5-cylinder in the Mazda5 so people can stop complaining about power.

government in Japan uses the turbo hydrogen/electric hybrid rotary. It can switch from hydrogen to gasoline on the fly, and performs excellently!

at least I think it's turboed

hells yea, its a nice engine with the proper build and tuning. There is a lot of Hp you can get out of this engine if you want. Its not the best engine but it's kinda fun being the "underdog" in the game , haha
