Mazda 6 + Navigation = Ceramic Window Tint?

I just called to get a quote on having my car tinted. The place told me that I would need to use ceramic based tint due to the factory navigation system. When I had my old Infiniti G35 tinted (at the same place too) which had factory navigation, they mentioned nothing of needing ceramic based tint.

Is this true or is the guy just trying to get more money out of me? He quoted me $329 for the car with ceramic based tint, that's a LOT for some window film, but if using a metalic based film will adversly affect the factory navigation system, I guess it's worth it...

Tint shouldn't affect the Nav system, but you never know. First you need to find out where the GPS antenna is, then go from there, I've never even heard of Seramic based tint.

The GPS antenna is in the front dash. Unless you plan on tinting your whole front window with the highend metalic tint you shouldn't have any issues.

The metallic tint can interfere with the satellite reception.

Then the guy lied to me. He said the GPS Antenna in the mazda 6 was built into the rear defroster lines. That makes me angry.

Can someone confirm that it's in the front dash? I just called two dealerships around me and neither one of their service departments could tell me.

That's comforting (ughdance)

i can't tell you if it is in the dash or not but i can absolutely tell you that it is NOT part of the rear window. Those are simply wires in or on the glass. A GPS antenna has a few more parts considering it is a microwave reciever.

Nice, thanks!

just another monkey bussines to get you to pay more money.

I presume the Mazda 6 GPS antenna is in the same place as the MazdaSpeed6, which is in the front dash.
