Mazda 6 issues...

Hello,

This is my first post so go easy on me. :)

My wife bought a 6i V6 automatic with every option available.
Our problem is this: After the car runs for any period of time is reeks of rotten eggs. I know that is a sign of the catylytic converter but that doesn't seem possible with a brand new car. Does anyone else have this problem?
Also, the car has a horrible response when you first press the gas, is this common too?

That's all my issues with this car, thanks for your responses.

If it smells that bad and it's a brand new car and response is bad, I'd take it to the dealer ASAP. I'm not an expert but if its that bad, it should be fixed, esp. if its emissions or engine related.

rotten eggs = sulfer

I beleive that it probably means you have a craked cat but I have been wrong before, take it to the dealer....

and just to follow up, is it a 6i (4 cyl 2.3) or 6s (6 cyl v6 3.0) not that is has anything to do with your issues

It is a 6i with a v6.

OT: why does the high rise spoiler cost more than the lip? And why can you choose all the options on the 6i and get the price to a fully loaded 6s? We wanted an 's' but they had more rebates on the i so that's what we went with. I want the 17's though...

6i's don't come with the V6, if your car has a 6 and you paid for a 6i you got a great deal!

Most the 6s have this smell for the first 100-200 Miles. I wouldn't sweat it. My loaner did, mine did, many other owners have had it as well. If it persists for longer then that then I'd start to worry.

Let me get this straight, the 6s comes with the v6 but you can still get the sport package which includes the 17's?

the S is the upper model, V6 ABS standard etc, the i comes with the 4 cyl 2.3 with optional ABS

The S
-----------
3.0 V6
ABS Standard
5 speed auto w/ sportshift OR 5 speed manual

The I
-----------
2.3 Straight 4
ABS optional
4 speed auto OR 5 speed manual

So if it's an I it's a 4 cyl, if it's a v6 it's a S, how much did you pay, that will be an easy way to tell ;)

Let me tell you about my car and you can tell me what I have...

V6 with 5 speed auto.
Body kit all the way around
climate control
Bose 6 disc
power seat w/ heated seats
16" wheels
sunroof/leather
high rise fin
fog lights
homelink mirror
don't know about ABS
Just front airbags, no side ones
regular instrument display (non-illum)
titanium trim

The sticker was like $27500.00.

BTW, it has 900 miles on it and the smell of bad eggs was horrible yesterday. It actually made it into the vehicle.

Okay, cool. I thought that the S was the top of the line one without the discounts. The one with the 17's and the illum display. That is the S with sport package?

Also sounds like the premium package, not the sport, cause the sport would have had the elctroluminecant gauges and the 17" rims.

Hey,

I also get the rotten eggs smell. When I first got my 6s, I had to give this British guy a lift from work ( he was visiting from Britain) when I dropped him off - the rotten egg smell rushed in the passenger side door. I thought the guy ripped one in my new car before he got out, I couldn't believe it! :-)

Once I got home and pulled into the garage, I smelt the eggs again, then I realized that it was the car and not the British air biscuit!

Anyway, do you have the California ULEV emissions on your car, mine came equipped with it and I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I don't know if I have ULEV or not as I'm in NC. Actually, the one we have isn't even ours yet, it's a loaner while ours comes in from the port. Hopefully today!

I know all the new Protege5's suffered from the rotten egg smell (mine included at the time), and it was the sulfer burning inside the catalytic converter. After about 500-1000 miles it was almost completely gone. Some did notice for a little longer though, and some noticed it under weird some circumstances (like some people & I noticed it more when the heater was on). It will pass (no pun intended:)), until invest in car air fresheners. :D

So we have suffered the rotten egg smell for the last 1000 miles in a loaner and we have to put up with it again when we get ours? Great...

No, not saying that. I have never once smelled in my 6. And I only occasionally smelled it in my Protege5. Mainly after running it harder.

well it must just be with the 6s(V6), that has the rotten egg smell for a time.....I have the 6i(4cyl), and never smelled it....by the way, about 1 min after turning the engine off, my car "burps"....its always kinda comical.....I assume its something closing up or reseting
