Mazda 6 I-4

that year with the yamaha motor was truely a nice machine:D

Why thanks, it is one hell of a machine. They neutered it too much when they came out with an ATX version in 93, and made the biggest mistake droping the V6 Yamaha engine in favor of the V8 Found in 96-99 SHO's.

yup i had both years . nothing compared to the yamaha prototype that year.
maybe one day they will calaberate agian:D

I soooooo hope so. Slapping a Ford logo onto a Mazda6 chassis with some changes to the body panels, and a nice V6 280-300 hp Yamaha V6 under the hood would make a killer evolution for the Taurus. The only way it can be a SHO is with a Yamaha. None of that duratec stuff, no SVT bs, pure sportbike inspired design in an automotive engine. I've heard of a few SHO engines that have held together at RPM's in excess of 10k. Thats what I call durable. But I'll stick with my limiter moved to 8500 from 7500. I'm not as likely to bounce off that 8500 like I do now. :-)

super 60

Let me know when ANYone gets a Super 60 T3 mounted to the I4. I will be picking mine up in a less than an hour and I noticed the exact thing as perfworks. LOTS of nice room and a killer exhaust set up perfect for a turbo upgrade. I will be VERY interested in purchasing an adapter/exhaust manifold for a turbo. Any Idea how much boost you think this thing can handle? id like to have as much HP as the 6. Hell, ill wait on buyin rims if i can get a Super 60 in the thing.

the good thing about the engine is it has iron sleeves in the bore from the factory. it just doesnt have very strong rods. the pistons are ok.
it can take probably max 6 psi.
with the haed thats on this motor there is no need to go crazy with boost because with some mods to the intake and some port matching look out!!

Let me know. Will the stock fuel system provide enough or are you going to go with bigger injectors or like a 5th injector setup?

Netviper, are you saying the 6's arent as quick as SHO's in general (I thought they were around 220 hp stock) , or not as quick as yours? I'm not dogging you out I loved the SHO, my dad had one around the time I had my 'stang but I couldnt get him to trade me. Torque steer was horrible on that car but other than that it rocked. I've been looking for something like an SHO for a while and the 6 was the 1st thing that clicked for me, practical 4 door with a little muscle.

gruss - back when I got my SHO in October in stock form I'd have to say the the 6s would be very close. The 6s feels like it has more down low, where a SHO doesn't begin to make any real power toi about 2800rpm. When I drove the 5speed 6s I was more impressed with its body tightness than anything else, it felt like my sho did after I added welded full length subframe connectors. Torque steer is a major issue on mine and just about ever SHO, but the Quaife LSD that I have pland for it will solve that nicely.

The 6 is faster for the 5 seconds off the line and then it loses the edge of the lower TQ. Now granted today, my SHO VS a stock 6s is not a challenge, not to say that a 6 isn't a great quick car, but for the $600 I have into my SHO in bolton stuff (y-pipe w/cats, AMSoil foam air filter, stb's, subframe connectors, and the recent addition of a chip) my cash is on the SHO even with a crappy launch (everytime with the open differential)

You have to remember too that a Mustang Cobra will run out of usable gearing and TQ way before a SHO will. It's similar in the 6s engine, my powerband is soooo wide and pretty much straight from about 3000 up to the 7500 limiter (8500 with a chip) and even at 8500 the car is still got more there, vs most other cars which start to drop off towards thier redlines and higher.

I went into test driving the 6s with my father just casue I wanted to point out to the dealer that it wasn't the next SHO, and I came away telling my father to buy one, cause its quick, comfortable, and looks good. But its not got mid to top end that I'm so used to, and love so much. There's something magical about a car that without boost pushes you back a little in the seat at 4000rpm.

Soon as Ford slaps the Taurus name on a 6 chassis I would seriously consider it, they even think of offering a Yamaha under the hood and I'll sell my soul. Cause then its a car that would be on the same level as the performance sedans the 6 is modeled after. And I'd rather drive a 2003 car, than a 1994. But I'll keep the 94 forever.

To bad you arent closer, I'd love to see the car just to stir up the old memories ;) All the SHO's I see around here seemed to be trashed. But that was the car that made me consider the 6s, and buy my first non-ford (sort of) since '88. Its nice to have a fairly quick car again, actually drive it in the winter and take the family when you need it to. Anyway, have fun with the SHO, and I wasnt callin BS I just wanted to know where you were comin from and your side by side comparison of the 2 actually confirms my gut feelings of the 6 after driving it a while.

well its not like its right there infront of ya but home.nycap.rr.com/netviper576/

I'll actually be out that way come July 16th on my way to Madison, WI for the SHO convention. If I'm not a part of the 10-15 car SHO caravan heading west on I80 perhaps I'll make a side trip. I'm always up for a drive somewhere new, and I80 can be boring.

There are a few ppl out there that know what a SHO is about, I got a similar exchange with a 3rd Gen Eclipse owner on thier fourms. I was considering one of those before I found my SHO. I had been searching for this particular color and tranny combo for 2 years. My car is 1 of 241 produced in the Opal Frost color and an MTX, cause tooooo many ppl went and got ATX's.

Anyhow I'll keep it in mind when I'm driving out that way, perhaps we could meet up and you can take it for a spin. I hope to have all the tranny work finished between now and the 1st of July, comes right down to the $$$'s to get it done.

to do it right i would go up one stage. but thats for s**** and giggles.
with a rising regulator and 6psi max there is no need
just plumbling and go.

Ahh the dreaded I-80 road trip, thats always nice and boring, especially through OH where it seems like there's a cop every mile and a half. Yeah if you think about look me up, I'm not to far north of the toll road, 1/2 hour maybe. Its actually a pretty nice ride up the coast of Lake MI.
Oh yeah now that I think about sorry for hijacking the thread
