Mazda 5 in the shop for 1st time...

I was having a lot of noise and vibration from the front drivers wheel bearing going out, also the drivers seat stitching was coming apart at the seams, and of course the suspension winter crunch front and rear. The dealer( Obrien Auto Park) is the only Mazda dealer in Champaign Il. They don't provide a loaner car which is a huge inconvenience. I live about 15 miles from them and have to take my work truck there to drop it off, my wife than takes me home in the 5 and I drive the 5 back to drop it off and drive my truck home. Of course this visit they only got all the parts ordered and I have to do it all again sometime next week when they all come in.
I am not too impressed with the how the 5 is holding up, I can't believe that the wheel bearing is going out at 25,000 miles, or that the seat stitching is coming apart. I like the 5 but this is going to make me think hard about buying another Mazda.
I hope when it is repaired that the issues are resolved. Both front seat covers have to be replaced because Mazda redesigned them and they wouldn't match each other otherwise, I wonder is they will match the rest of the seats in back?

sounds like if they weren't going to match each other in the front they probably won't match the back. Hopefully it's such a subtle difference you won't mind.
 
The seams in both my 5's are coming apart in the front left corner. If its covered Ill take those in too!
 
Sorry about the pain. Some dealers have good agreements on rentals for their customers and they can drop it home for you (I think a saw a $19 a day from Enterprise in the service waiting area the other day)

It is, there is a TSB for it

I'm assuming it is for the 06, but does it indicate any specific year? Not seen that TSB (yet (nailbyt))
 
If you have any tsb links let me know so i can take it to the dealer thanks...my wife mentioned it today before this thread and its a wierd coincidence.
 

Thanks mazdadude. N00b question, but could you specify which one is the one? The only one I see related to vibration is the engine mount one (sad1)...

Had my front seat bottoms replaced, the gray fabric no longer curves down the front of the seat, it stops right at the front edge. They will no longer match the back seats, but they aren't supposed to come apart anymore.

Sucks that you are having a bad experiance at the dealer. Mazda WILL pay for a rental car under warranty for a while..... that and there's no reason why the dealer couldn't overnight order the parts and have the car back to you the next day, unless they were booked or had no one to install the seat trims (we send ours to a trim specialty shop down the street).

No, no TSB for wheel bearing noise. Common enough though, maybe Mazda just thinks it's "one of those things" that go bad on the 3's and 5's.

Its not caused by human friction, its caused by the seat flattening out when you sit on it and all the pressure goes right to those stitches on the edge, they eventually just pop open, if you have a seat cover over the seats, its just going to hide the issue (to my understanding.. I am no genious).
 
It is an ordeal for me too, as there is no Mazda dealer near me and I have to drive 2 hrs to get to one. I already went once for them to verify my complaints, and order parts, and now its another four hour round trip to get the stuff completed today.

I have an early vin# car, and so far all of the recalls/TSB's have applied to my vehicle. I am having the seatcovers replaced today, as well as the front lower control arm bushings, and the sliding door latch recall. I will let you know how the install goes, and how the seats came out.

I am curious though if they will do an alignment after they complete the front lower arm install?

Maybe I should call Mazda and see what they say about Obriens no giving me that option, especially under warranty work. I'm guessing the dealer didn't want to overnight the parts since the car is still drivable. The service advisor is seemingly as clueless as the salesman that sold us the 5. I explained that we had to to a lot of driving to and fro to drop of the 5 since they only provide courtesy rides in town. She didn't try to lessen the inconvenience by, overnighting the parts, or offering a rental through Mazda. She even repeatedly asked if I needed a courtesy ride back home and to the dealer, just not listening like the goof salesman.
 
Oh hell yeah, I'd call Mazda. There's no reason not to use the programs offered by Mazda to keep the customers happy.
 
well I just got it back after a day and a half of them working on it. The suspension and seats where repaired just fine. The wheel bearing was also supposedly replaced but the noise has not changed. The tech said the noise is still there because all four tires are "choppy". What the hell is choppy and how are all four tires this way in only 25,000 miles without any alignment or inflation issues? A load of crap I do believe.
The noise I'm hearing is really loud and resonates throughout the cabin at 20mph. You can feel it pulsing in the steering wheel and pedals. As you increase speed it is less apparent and there is no vibration in the wheel. The tires are stock, wheels balanced and properly inflated tires. Has anyone else had this issue with any tires before. I have driven every set of tires on my truck till they were way past a legal tread depth, these Toyos are only 25,000 miles in.
I take it today for an oil change and tire rotation. I will wait and see if they continue to mark that the tires are in good shape, then ask the goof service manager what the hell is going on. This is really irritating.

Heres the link to the thread that explains my noise problem. I took it today for the oil change and tire rotation, but they didn't have a Mazda speacialist available to look at the tires. They have all been rotated every 5,000 miles and have worn bumpy inside edges. In that thread some people have had Mazda replce thier tires and make a toe adjustment. I have 25,300 miles on it now so I hope that the dealer dosn't try to say that its because they are worn out, they still have over 50% tread depth. The idiot tech that replaced the wheel bearing just said they were choppy, somehow didn't connect the fact that all four inside edges were worn and that is not normal. Didn't even tell the service advisor or us about that, i had to inspect them myself.
Since the dealer seems so inept, I called Mazda about the tire problem first but they said the dealer would have to inspect it and let them know before they could replace the tires. This 5 has been really problamatic these last few weeks, but only this tire issue remains now. Anyone else with these problems please chime in and let me know how they turned out.
