Sure wish we had this option here, I (and I'm sure others) would have opted for this engine instead.

"1.6-liter oil-burning mill cranks out 113 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. The engine routes power to the front axle via a six-speed manual transmission. Mazda lists the MPV's 0-60 miles per hour time at 13.7 seconds and claims that the compact minivan tops out at 112 mph. A weight reduction of 264 pounds contributes to the new Mazda5's improved fuel efficiency, which, when equipped with the 1.6-liter diesel engine, stands at 45 miles per gallon (U.S.) combined"

I love the mpg's, but a lot of people already complain about the the 2.3 153 hp or the 2.5 157 hp MZR engines. I wonder how much of a power loss that is going to 113 hp's?

The 1.6L has 199 foot pounds of torque that comes early at 1750RPM the 2.5 MZR in the 5 is 163 torque at 4000RPM. With the weight loss as well, I think the 1.6L would still make a great alternative.

Yeah, I agree about the torque, have watched many reviews about the 5 from British car editors and they all complain about the lack of power in the diesel, but wait all the writers and editors complain about the lack of power on the gasoline engines here in north america as well.
