May's webstats

Good news,

We broke the 3 million hits a month mark for May. Yup, we served 3218842 hits in 1149398 files on 86540 pages over 23130 distinct visits from 12221 different hosts, totaling 14380175 kilobytes. Load averages usually at 0.4, which is not amazing, but acceptable. Memory usage is near optimal with little swap and mostly real.

Since the last upgrade we have had no performance related issues or downtime, only the 18 hour power outage. Now that I am back in town I ought to be able to handle all problems within one ot two hours notice.

Nonetheless, we plan to upgrade the CPU and MB in the weeks to come. If money allows, we will replace the box with a DELL or IBM rackmount server for better reliability. Future plans include getting our own mail and dns boxes. Us admins here are already dreaming of dropping these boxes a few inches, adding a turbo kit, lots of vinyl, tints, and a phat body kit.

Cheers,

Having your own DNS servers are kool. When I was building my website a couple of years ago, I was gonna implement my own DNS server, just so I would have more control over my domain name. DNS administration is very interesting, not to mention time consuming when setting it up, but once up, it is imparative that maintainence be kept up. I know you already know this, but I am just ranting.
