...but I can't get my rear seats to fold the way they're supposed to. I read in the manual that you pull up on the strap there and flip the bottom forward, then pull the back down but ?????

Maybe its just cuz I'm afraid to pull too hard and jack something up...

You mean folding them flat or just regular folding?

If you want to fold them flat, you have to move the cushions first (those ones u sit on), so that those cushions fit nicely behind your front seats where rear passangers usually put their feet in. Then, you move the seat belts to the side of the back cushions, and fold. There, you should get a nice flat cargo space.

I had to pull pretty good on mine to get it to release. Then just pull out a little then flip it against the front seat. Don't be afraid of hurting it, that is what warranties are for.

I see... so there is no latch on the bottom part of the seat... it just requires a little bit of a yank?

Thats right...they just snap into place...one click for the single seat side...and two for the other side.

If you're a moron, I am, too. It took me a little while to figure out that you just yank on it. :)

Geez, with all the practice I've gotten, you'd think that would be no problem! :D

Eloquent as always, eh Syz?

P.S. Ya know, I'd expect someone with the handle 'syzygy' to be driving an Eclipse... :p ;)

one more thing...there are TWO ways of doing this....if you want the back of the rear seats to fold down and make the surface FLAT you have to do one of TWO things...or they won't go all the way down.

#1. you lift up the rear seat bottoms and fold them up aginst the back of the rear seats...they just pivot there....but for the back of the rear seat to lay totally flat...you will have to remove the HEAD REST...just pull it up and out...then store them.....OR

#2. there is a little latch under the bottoms that is more like a CLIP on the metal bar that is their hinge, and if you flip up the little clip you can totally remove the bottoms and store them somewhere else...which gives you more room behind the front seat and eliminates the need to remove the rear seats headrest.

I think I'm more of an idiot for not knowing the seat backs did more than just fold forward a little. Figured the little handles that stick out were 'aftermarket' oh-crap handles.

This boy removed the rear seat headrests the first week. It gives it a cleaner look, improves the rearview mirror visibility and does not inconvenience the passengers in the rear, because Syz has no rear passengers!

Once again this forum gave an answer to a problem i did not even know i had.

I had no clue that you could do that, i tought they just folded down.

How can you not love this place;)

Thanks guys & girls.

Don't feel bad - The idiot salesman at my dealership didn't know either - I had to show him!

Great idea, Sir Nuke... not to mention that with all the weight you'll save by removing the rear headrests you'll cut your 1/4 time by probably half a second or so.

Chris

i too have removed my rear headrests... i like the view in the mirror much better, and i also like how it looks from outside... seems more sporty or something... but i keep the headrests in my trunk, so this won't do anything for the weight = ).

Those back seat cushions are pretty hard to unsnap! I saw my dealer do it once when I bought the car and he made it look so easy. When I tried to tug on those little straps that stick out I thought I was going to rip them right off! I would pull for a bit and then just give up on it since I didn't want to damage my car. One day I figured I'd just bite the bullet and tug as hard as I could... finally worked, but not something I want to do too often!

yeah I have custom leather done on the rear seats, and the little straps were addes on as well. They don't look too strong so instead of pulling on them, I just jam my fingers into the seats and pull from the rear. You know, kinda like searching for lost change.

Last time I passed a car on a country road without looking behind I a got a $250 ticket...the car behind me was a COP!!!

Another example that dealers know :bs: about what they sell : I had to show them how to install the rear compartment mesh bagage hold down (what's the english word for that thing?). He didn't know about the hooks hidden underneath the carpet, so he hooked it to the child seat hooks behind the seats...
