NVP5White said:This is intersting data, but I'm not sure how its relevent to the contest. Unless we're going to ammend the rules to require a picture taken after the contest start date then this is all just wasted off-topic banter that takes away from the fun of the contest.
Personally, I treat the contest as photo taking contest, not just a "see who can pull the best [TOPIC] picture from their deck" contest. I'd like to see everyone attempt a new picture for the contest, but its unreasonable to make this a rule of the contest.
So, yashart, schools out for summer: when's the next round start?

Most everyone has made some very valid points here but these new rules shouldn't be retroactive - what's done is done and the winner should be rewarded accordingly and the new rules put into effect upon the next contest. I like the idea of an anonymous entry submission. I mean, I voted for Tonka b/c I liked his pic best, but to avoid the "popularity contest" making it anonymous would definitely help. :\
Then everyone will have to accept this and do their best to be honorable. (shrug)altspace said:It's impossible to make it truly anonymous. It'll always be a popularity contest. The pop vote wins.
I think to add someone to an issues list is pretty offensive. I understand yashart wasn't trying to offend there but it still was unnecessary to single him out in the first place. If people have accepted that this in some way influenced by popularity then I see no reason to single him out as the one offensive. Has this NEVER happened before? The simple suggestion that there was foul play is offensive IMO.Donas64 said:I don't think there is anything wrong with a suspicious circumstance being pointed out.
Adults can handle things out in the open without the need to result to back-room back-biting.
There was a concern, it was addressed in the open, it was dealt with, everyones happy. I thought it was handled very maturely.
And I think the result should stand and Tonka should win.
That was the entire point. This has never happened before. At least as long as I have been participating in the photography contest. Maybe people have posted on other boards asking for votes, but never has anyone amassed that many votes that abruptly and irregularly, basically all in one day. Something had to be said. And, I think Yashart handled it about as well as he could have.clownphish said:I think to add someone to an issues list is pretty offensive. But yeah, by this forum's standards at least, I can say it was at least handled somewhat maturely. I think maybe the rules should be reviewed carefully and every contestant made clearly aware of what they're getting into before they enter.
