Max power with stock MSP tranny

The only time I know for sure that it popped out of gear was when I hit a pothole hard... just didn't see it. It seemed more like it wasn't like grabbing it very well, but that could have been user error since I had only been driving stick for about 2 months. So after all the "safety" things are done would you recommend ecu first?

I would look at your engine mounts and shifter bushings and then just drive it and see if you have anymore 3rd gear issues. The engine mounts are horrible, odds are that your front, rear, and passenger mounts are all torn!

#1 Issue on this car (as has been stated) is the tune. I would start with a SSAFC and later mod from that point. Exhaust would be very low on my list if you are on a budget, you can make atleast 63 more whp on the stock turbo back exhaust. I'm not saying that you won't get gains from a new exhaust; I just wouldn't start there if you are on a budget.

Post some pics of your intercooler. The people in this thread will be able to ID it for you.

^^^ motor mounts would def help isolate your tranny problem. mounts suck, dont get the stiffest motor mounts if u cant stand vibrations. and shifter bushings would help greatly also. then YES something to help u with your tune and a wideband to help u moniter your A/F ratios

Are there any quick and easy ways to get to the intercooler? As I said before, I have almost no experience and whatever knowledge I've picked up from other people. The quick part is because I live in New England, I don't have a garage, and it is far from warm up here...

I see it this way.

Quick = 1/4 Mile or 0-60
Fast = Top Speed

True, but those numbers rely directly on the person driving. If the person can't drive it will be slower. It's like saying one car has more horsepower than the other therefore it will win

Based on that I am going more for quick, but nothing crazy. I definitely will be waiting on the weather as far as the intercooler goes, hopefully not too much longer... I'm dying to get my hands dirty.

Well going off 75 mph at 3500 rpms itl come off the revliter at 150. No point in needing over 100 to me

But a piggy back intake exhaust and fmic will get what you want out of it.

^This. With a decent tune these cars are a blast to drive. Bolt ons can get you 210-220whp and should still be reliable.* 210-220 make these cars a lot of fun and they are quicker than you would think for that amount of power. Beyond that power level it starts getting expensive, potentially unreliable, and you'll have traction issues anyway.

*Some people have blown up these cars at stock power level. 210-220whp seems to be a sweet spot for most MSPs.

210 whp is pretty much what I'm looking for. I will address any potential problems before I start with the power gains, but that's not going to be until at least the spring due to the weather. Thanks for all the help guys, I hopefully will start everything in a few months and I will probably have more questions then haha

I agree 210-220 is a lot of fun. Just hope you don't get bit by the mod bug after you start modding. I told myself I was just going to do intake and exhaust when I got my car and now look at my sig. Built motor is next. Built trans/LSD is after that lol

(lol) i know the feeling, collecting parts left and right to do everything asap.

Haha I think I will have the same problem once I get started. Just waiting on the weather now...

these msp's cant really handle high power all that well, mine is almost stock other then an injen CAI and possibly a catback and it has lots of issues.. i had to change the f***ing fuel tank within the first 3 months of purchase, the turbo is whistling too much, possible my boost controller has been tampered with and its pushing the car too much, the turbo smells like oil, the transmission cracks when i turn the car on, it sounds like a jet airplane when i put the car in rear.. but you know what? its a fun car to beat up, or im sure it was for the first owner cuz he did a goof f***ing job at it

with the right mods and knowledge, these cars can handle quite a bit. Just need patience and of course money. The cars power output only depends on how deep your pockets are
