Martial Arts

I studied sho-rin-ryu (I can't remember which style, darn it) Karate for a few years. I had to stop because I didn't have time.

karate for 3.5 yrs..... got bored so moved to Tae-kwon do.... that was the worst. Only good for leg workouts. I studided shaolin (N&S) for a year or so.... probably enjoyed that the best. Now I am working on some wing-chun. WC is the s***. It is what Jet-Li has studided for a better part of his life... problem is finding a techer....

is WC big in your area of texas? the cool thing about LA is that there are tons of schools around, but mostly seem to be karate and tkd. although different types of grappling schools are becoming more popular.

I took Goju Ryu for a while when I was younger.

Anybody here studio Akido?
I've been thinking of starting this but am more interested in self defense and physical fitness than being able to kick someone's ass, so I thought Akido might be just for me.

D323, do you have a school you attend here in town?

I was thinking of signing up at the Wujido Institute, but they wanted a 5 year commitment totalling over $5000 which was a little too steep for me.

i took an Akido class at college, but it's not my primary art. from what i did, it might be about what you're looking for. my instructor used to say the goal was to keep you safe, and if possible your opponent safe. the work outs were not as intense as other things that i've studied, so i can't say it was really getting me in shape. the techniqes were really great.

Only 1 style of Shorin-ryu Karate. I myself did it for 7 years up until highschool. (2nd dan) At that point, with sports (mainly wrestling -by far the most effective type of martial art) it became too much. Did some kenpo in college but didn't like the informality of it. (but that's probably more of an inditement of the school itself than the style). I'm studying shootfighting at a Hoyce Gracie school. lots of grappling, throwing and submissions. If I had a WC school around here I'd totally go... I've heard a lot of good things about it.

I study Smith&Wesson .44 mag. beats out all martial arts. j/p

But seriously, my friend was a 3 time Western European kick boxing champion and he teaches me stuff every time I go to Portugal. But if I had the time(between school, work, and gym) I would love to learn Muay Thai or some Jun Fang Gung Fu

I was told there were three branches within shorin-ryu. Perhaps not. At any rate, I was at a really good dojo. My sensei was 9th dan, and the kata (sp?) master of the world.
