Manual slide door recall

Picked up in a recall notice yesterday on the Japanese Mazda site. It relates to the sliding side door catch. My understanding is that water ingress has in some cases compromised the latch integrity.
Seems to affect Premacy DBA-CREW and CBA-CREW
The notice states CREW-100034～CREW-130416 and the dates are 20/12/05 - 18/1/18 (I'm assuming build dates).
Don't think its a major problem and not a concern to me as I have the full electric operating doors and this applies to manual slide doors only.
But if you have a vehicle in this build range, might be worth checking it out with your dealer (assuming the recall notice has been circulated outside Japan.

Wait a second, did I read that right??? You have electric (as in power) sliding rear doors??? Do you live in the U.S., and if so, is this an option on the 07' models now???

Sorry Guys, I live in Japan where its available as an option, but I don't think its available in North America, even on the '07 - shame because its very convenient.

IMO, power sliding doors are a cool toy, but not much more. Some people love 'em though, so cool you guys at least have the option.

I know so many people that have had horrible trouble with power doors on their Windstars, I think I would choose to skip them. I guess I can see their value with little kids, but my kids are almost 11 and 9 so... I think a power liftgate would be very very useful though.

jandree22 - the doors will close themselves after unlatching as long as you are on level ground or on a slight downhill. Unfortunately our driveway is on an incline... but my dd's favorite thing is to get in the car, unlatch it and then let it close itself as we back out of the driveway.

Astroglide....errr Easyglide

The rear doors close very easy as if they have silicon lubrication. You can close the door with a touch of your pinky. And it opens real wide allowing for simple access to seats. This is another advantage of the Mazda5.

Hey, did anyone notice that Consumer Reports gave the Mazda5 86/100 which is an excellent score and it ranked #1 in tall mid-size wagons (impreza, focus, matrix, etc.).

Just curious. Consumer reports rated the mazda5 number one of all the high vans, rated by performance first.
Almost all the vehicles they tested are recommended.
Why is not the mazda5 recommended? They dont seem to state why. Is it because its a new vehicle and they dont have enough long term info yet on its reliability?

Yep. Very EASY to open/close with a touch of a finger. Way easier than our former Odyssey LX.
Same here, to me the power doors are a toy. Plus more problems to worry about if something electrical goes wrong.That's why I didn't mind our Odyssey LX.
But to each his own.

perfectly balanced door. Almost no sliding Friction. Disadvantage: Friends get embarassed when they slam them too hard. They are used to other minivans sliding door that needed to be slammed hard to close. Then I show them the 'automatic lock function'. It takes getting used to.

That's exactly why Consumer Reports doesn't recommend it yet... I sent them an email asking them the same question. They can only recommend cars that have a history of high reliability, and the 5 doesn't have that yet.

I'm going on the assumption that it will though, since it's built in the same plant as the 3 which has a good reliability rating.

In 12 months, the power doors haven't missed a beat. Theres also a power off switch, so you can use them with just the electric latch mechanism.
I can testify that they have proved very convenient, especially when approaching the car carrying the baby or bags of shopping. Also, when its pouring with rain, its nice to open the door as you run to the car and minimise getting wet. Power would also be a good option for the disabled.
I also chose the remote engine starter option, not as a gimmick, but as it seemed an excellent way to fire up the aircon during the summer (100deg+) heat - fantastic.

I think the Japanese 2.3S is pretty similar to the US GT. Its got the Karakuri seat, factory Nav/Rr park camera, plus front park camera, HID headlights etc.
Phantom Blue is unusual here as the majority of cars are Black, White or various shades of Grey.

I notice these changes to the Canadian GT

1) Dunlop tires
2) damn wipers are going opposite way (better be right hand drive)
3) Short Stubby antenna like the Speed 3 antenna

I can tell you that Japan is absolutely Aftermarket Mod crazy. Wheels, Exhausts and ICE being the main themes.
Despite that I've looked in the mags and shops and there actually isn't that much specifically for 5/Premacy yet. The Dealer shop is also very limited.
I'll do a little more research to see if there is a source of Premacy specific stuff.
If I can find anything worthwhile, I don't mind helping out where I can guys (job/family permitting!)

As for the factory reverse cam, its great, especially at night as the reverse lights make it a clearer view that normal eyesight and the park assistance lines work well.
Looks like kits are available for the factory nav, plus a few Japanese spec Sony/Clarion HDD navi, but not much else. Technical considerations - who knows.
Kits however look to be around $500 so its possible that a local solution may be preferable.
