Mammoth Cave Meet - New Date - 08/22/2009

It is wet but not in the campgrounds. The rangers will look the other way if you cover the beer with a cooler holder and don't get rowdy. I'm down for camping but beware that it will be hot and stuffy even at night and the bugs will be fierce. Campfires are no fun when it's hot. They do have cabins you can rent but they are in poor shape. You can reserve a large group area and have many tents near each other. The only time the campground fills up is on holiday weekends. If you get there early there is usally no problem getting a space. If we have many campers then we want to reserve a group area.

I am not a big drinker but wouldn't mind having a couple. We can poor them into cups or you can bring a cozy.

I'd like to know who wants to camp and go ahead and reserve a group area if possible. I have never had good luck on last minute arrangements.

It will be hot and muggy but we could have a campfire that night to keep the skeeters away.
Woo! I'll be turning 21 too (thinkbeer
Schweeet!

If it's the 22nd I have my neices 1st bday and nephews 5ths bday party that day:( so I won't be able to make it

This is the night of my friend's bachelorette party. :( I probably wouldn't be available any weekend in August though because I'll be helping tons with the wedding. You guys have fun though!! Take lots of pics. :)

We just might be able to make a go at this after all. I read that a few have a problem making the 22nd. Would another date be better? I know everyone will not be able to agree on a set date but if another date gets more members then it's a better date. I can take off just about any of the weekends in August and like I said in my first post, I will be at the cave on the morning of August 15th for a 5k road race, so that is a better day for me. I understand that meets have fallen apart because of too much shuffling of the date to try and accommodate everyone. and I don't want that to happen. Your thoughts?

I already have plans for August 8th & September 12th. I can do the 15th (Aug), if it will work out better.

I've been through the Historic Tour 5 or 6 times. I agree, it is kinda boring (yawn)

I would love to go through the Wild Cave Tour, sometime! It's a few hours long and you have to wear a helmet with a headlamp. Be prepared to get dirty! (eekdance) Some friends & I were going to do it a few years back, but never got around to it. We did a similar tour @ Marengo, in Indiana, a few times & it was a blast! (rockon)

Also, there are a few restaurants in Cave City & Glasgow is not far either.

Any more suggestions on this meet? Are we set for the date Aug 15th or 22nd? Time to meet at the cave headquarters? Meet around noonish and go caving, drive around the park in the afternoon and eat late afternoon by the interstate?

Just a note even though it should be common sense: Don't go to Mammoth Caves if you get claustrophobic.

Any news on a firm date? This could be a good time! The 22nd or 23rd of Aug would work out better for me.

Sounds good to me! (drive) Hopefully my clutch holds up!

Is it still gonna be the 22nd? (yupnope) I'll be in Cave City this Saturday, I can scope out possible restaurants in the area.

I guess so, haven't heard otherwise. The 22nd would be better for me, now I'm busy the 15th.

So I went on the Historic Tour with the family this past weekend (yawn) My nieces & nephew had never been. Found out my sister-in-law is claustrophobic, yeah that was fun! (headshake
We also went to Guntown Mountain.

There's lots to do in Cave City. Bumper boats, bumper cars, go carts, mini golf, horseback riding, there's a wax museum and also Dinosaur World. Check out http://cavecity.com/default.htm for more info.

I want to try the Alpine Slide!!!! (rockon)

I'm not camping. There is always a slim chance I might have to work on any given weekend. I usually don't find out til Tuesday of that week. Even If I do have to work I can haul ass up there when I get off. I could be there around 3 pm. What time does everyone want to meet at the park headquarters?

Hopefully you don't have to work! :(

How 'bout around noon, as somebody suggested before?
We could meet up & decide which tours to take & go from there. This past Saturday almost all the tours sold out, so it's best to get there a little early & buy your tickets in advance. Just a suggestion (thought)

If you have to work, we'll figure something out.

So who all is actually going? If there wont be a decent turn out I'll probably just plan on something else since its my birthday weekend :)
