So I'm watching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I saw it years ago but my g/f was on a Robert Redford kick and when I found out she hadn't seen it we rented it. So I get all the way to the end when they say...
Sundance: What?
Butch: You didn't see Lefors out there, did ya?
Sundance: Lefors? No.
Butch: (confidently) Good. For a moment there, I thought we were in trouble.
...and I made the connection...somehow...I heard Jay saying "You don't know lafours? Lafours is only the most..." and then I remembered the straw hat. Kevin Smith is once again brilliant by so subltly pulling in from a great classic.
Of course, then I sat down at my computer and found some movie trivia...
"La Fours", the mall security guard, is a reference to "La Force" the bounty hunter after Robert Redford and Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). Both characters are noted for their straw hats and being the toughest lawmen around.
I'm always a step behind it seems.
