Making the perfect STX Mazdaspeed... think tank starts here.

Why does there have to be such a lack of adjustable shocks for the MSP!? I've been looking for something for quite a while and can't seem to find anything priced decently. (The 2817 Koni's)

Is there anything else out there? Does anyone have info on making the Bilstein inserts adjustable?

What are you looking for? Tokico Illuminas worked well for me, are perfect stock fitment and priced reasonably.

I'm looking for something with a little more adjustability, I'd like both compression and rebound individually. The Illumina's sound ok and they are cheaper. I may just have them revalved to my spring rates and hope they work. Either that or I'll go with the Bilstein's if I can modify them to be fully adjustable later. Anyone have info on that?

Double adjustable struts are not really worth the $$$ for autoX even when designing the "perfect" setup. The problem is that everytime you go race it's on a different lot with a different course and you don't get 30 mins of practice to fine tune everything. You'll never be able to dial in compression and rebound seperately, perfectly in 4-5 short runs so it's really overkill IMHO.

Hmmm....what rates are you running? I'm running slightly stiffer/lower springs than stock (iON race spec) with no damping issues even at the softest settings. I understand the desire to have independent C/R adjustment, but have found the Illuminas satisfy my performance targets quite well...and for a budget price! The AWR adjustable rear sway bar helped quite a bit as well...well worth the price IMHO.

Peace...(hippy)

Well I'm planning on running a few open track events not just autox. If I end up doing a lot of open tracking I would like to have a good base established so that I don't have the itch to buy all new shocks. That's why if Bilsteins are able to be modified into an adjustable strut I will probably go with them. I may not need it at first, but I will be able to add it later.

Spring rates will be determined this weekend.

I think it's Truechoice.com that can revalve Bilsteins to make them adjustable.

Who is selling camber plates? I thought there were Ground Control camber/caster plates for our car but I can't find them anywhere. Ive heard people talk abut AWR plates, but I only see upper mounts on their site that are non-adjustable.

Is there anyone other then Delsing?

Thanks. A little heads up for the rest of you too. I called AWR today and they will have camber plates ready for sale in about a month.

Hey guys. Has anyone tried the Hankook Z212 tires? I'm going to be using the CP-035 17x8 and putting possibly this tire on (235/40/17) Just curious. I would be interested in the new Falken RT-615 but they don't have any good 40 side wall tires. Currently I'm working on getting some Koni D/A Strut Inserts to fit in the OEM Housings. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

There is a local girl running them on a DSP 2.5RS, but she hasn't gotten them dialed in yet so the jury is still out. Initial responses were very good though.

i'm trying to disable my abs one miller lite at a time. ;)

as for my brakes, no...i find it works better if i let the mazda engineers do the braking work for me. so far, they're proven to be good at it.

hehe, i think MGD did that for me as well. Well.. I'd rather have lock up wherre I can control it better vs just have a lot of push into the corner... It just seems like our abs system kicks in a little earlier then we possibly want. (poke)

Hmm Also Has Anyone Disabled There Abs?

I disabled mine, because I kept lifting the inside rear wheel and it was causing the ABS to freak out. I don't really miss it. I kind of wish I had a non-ABS Protege to start with now. SInce I'm sure there are quite a few pounds added to the ABS versions and per the rules I can disable ABS but I can't remove it.

Cant you convert to a non-abs protege as long as you remove everything that came with the ABS package? I dont know what other options mazda tied with the ABS on the P5.

ABS Pro's came with side impact airbags. Somewhere in the rules it states that ABS can be disabled, but not removed. I'm sure you could probably get away with it...

You can do anything in stock rules and in stock you can do an option package conversion.

Street prepared rules
"A vehicle may compete in Street Prepared Category if the preparation
of the vehicle has not exceeded the allowable modifications of Stock
Category, except as specified below."

Stock Rules.
"Option package conversions may be performed between specific
vehicles of a particular make and model, but only between
configurations from within a particular model year. Such conversions
must be totally complete and the resultant car must meet all
requirements of this Section."

So if you could remove the side airbags (I dont know if you would want to or not) you would be able to remove the ABS also. Your car does not have to be the way it came from the factory just a way it could have come from the factory.
