Maintenance Mode question (2021 CX-5)

I have a 2021 CX-5 touring auto that I'd like to swap brake pads on. I've found info on putting older models into maintenance mode, but can't find confirmation on the procedure for the 21 model. I tried this method: https://mazdas247.com/forum/t/maintenance-mode-for-2016-2017-cx-5-electronic-brakes.123861563/ which a couple of posters said worked on their 21s, but it didn't turn on a dashboard light or give any other visible indication of working for me, so I'm wary of trusting it enough to go forward with the service. Can anyone provide any clarity for me?

Maybe you aren't doing the procedure fast enough? From what I recall, at the step where you have to press the Start button 3 times, you have to do it fairly quickly. All steps kind of have to flow into each other with minimal periods of time between each step.

Here's what worked for me on my 2020:
  • turn the ignition ON
  • press and hold the electric parking brake switch
  • press and hold the accelerator pedal fully
  • press the Start switch 3 times.
Do these steps as quickly as possible. You will get confirmation, some indication on the dash, that the process worked and EPB is in maintainence mode.

This is what I did, but maybe the speed was an issue, or maybe the switch needs to be held before the pedal? I'll give it another shot tonight. Thanks.
