Could somebody tell me why the dealers by-pass this "Act". It seems like they don't want NOTHING in our cars. Man! this attitude just makes me angry. Anywho.. If i get new rims, speakers, seats on my car does that affect my warranty? I saw someone point out that the dealer rejected some forum member for some brake pads change up b/c he had painted the calipers. As if the caliper paint were to melt the caliper...That its just to darn stupid. For instance, I trully want a CAI and a Borla Cat-Back System but this BS of the dealer just sucks...

Just blowing off some steam..LOL

really the only way to have it both ways is to do your bolt ons and take them off if you have to go back to the dealer.

it's sucks but their warranty their rules!

it depends on whether or not they want to accept warranty pay for doing work. since mazda pays less for warranty work to discourage dealerships from doing it

I work for Lexus and We never turn anyone down for warranty. So my next car will probably be a lexus because they are so carefree about warranty and s***!

If I bought a lexus Is300 and put a turbo kit on. Then a few weeks later I blew the diff. apart your telling me they would warranty it? Bullsh*t

I just took my 3 in for a scheduled full inspection. With my interior neons and welded on aftermarket cat-back, they didn't give me any trouble. Actually, didn't even mention it. I think it probably depends a lot on the dealer, and the attitude of the guy looking at your car.

Yeah, I agree.

Tech that's 25-35 and drives an MP3/MSP/P5/M3/M6/RX8 will probably overlook it.
However, the 45 year old tech that drives a Chevy Venture/Buick/Suburban will probably make a big stink.

but whos putting intake and suspension on their SC or RX, GS?
IS maybe, but the issue is warranty work when you have aftr mkt parts.

exactly...IS300s are one thing but how many doctors and lawyers do you see putting catbacks and intakes on LS430 and lift kits on RX330s? ;)

Dealers cant by pass Magnusson Moss its a fedearl thing. If they say they wont fix something and the break was not caused by an aftermarket mod than you can techinically sue the shiat out of them for breaking a federal law.

wow.....you guys are pretty clueless.

cable43 said it best "it's sucks but their warranty their rules!"

I used to hang onto that dream that is the "Magnusson Moss act" or the "consumer bill of rights".....I hung onto them all the way to court where I basically got drug through the mud for 8 months.

Don't listen to me guys...I've only sued them over this and know how the system actually works. I'm also a former tech.

I had to fight my dealership left and right for them to fix my tranny in the end i paid upfront then they rembursed me 85% of the cost. It all depends on the dealer and your lawyer.

Sounds like you got a raw deal..but Ive seen way to many cases of the opposite where dealers tried to screw people and in the end replaced the parts. Im sure it depends on the extent of the modification on how big of a prick the dealer really wants to be..

The guy in my service dept. told me where/what to look for in mods.......................

dealerships only make money when they screw you out of it. They will look for every oppurtunity NOT to do anything for you. This is just the way it is. Don't ever purchase a car and expect a warranty, just be delightfully surprised if they actually fix something for you.

fyi, my wife bought a 99 mustang in 2000 (new) we bought an extended warranty to 75K miles. at 58Kmiles her exhaust fell off the car...cracked in half, fell off the car. It split at the weld connecting the pipe to the catalytic convertor. Her care was bone stock. They refused warranty service on it because the catalytic converter was the only piece they had to warranty on the exhaust. Then the car started pinging real bad and no amount of high octane gas, new plugs, new egr, etc made it stop. Come to find out there was a TSB for an ecu reflash to fix it...they denied it also and said the ecu was not part of the powertrain. We sold the car and bought a mazda the same day. Dealers ******* suck, get used to it.

They really are no different than any other service-based industry. Customers are nothing more than a number, $$$, whatever. They rarely care more about us than I care about the dog s*** I scraped off of my shoe yesterday morning. Like you said, Matt, be very grateful IF they do any actual "warranty" work. We've been lucky a few times with our 2000 Windstar. The actuator that pulls the sliding door closed was wearing out, so the door didn't latch properly. The first time they fixed, it worked in the lot but not in our driveway. "Must be the incline" we were told. bulls***. Fix it. The second time, they ran out of time (we needed it back before they could figure it out). bulls***. Fix it. Third time was the charm. Only had to pay $50 warr. deductible once (no s***, right?). Another time, the vent actuator arm for the HVAC was bent. Heater made a horrible sound. Took it in. Told us "If it's just wear and tear, it'll be about $700.00. If it's somehow broken, it's covered." Wear and tear? On the vent position selector? WTF? It was bent. Fix it. Fuckers! We did get hosed for a $500.00 brake job though. Front rotors looked more like Pringles and the pads were subsequently shot to s***. Man, did they **** us on labor...............
