Hey guys, looking to get some info. I really want to take the MSP on the track this season but nothing highly competitive just open track days for fun. I have heard or read the LSD SHOULD get welded before doing so. I am not out to kick the s*** out of the car just want a heads up before hand.

So would it be ok or would it be walking on thin ice.

You should weld it regardless. If you got the money and the downtime, just do it. I wish I would have done so earlier. My lsd snapped at 57k and I only hit the track a few times a year.

Trust me and just do it. Until then no burnouts.

point me in the direction of a "how to" ??? i didnt find anything using the search

also, do u notice tire chatter or excessive wheelhop while cornering? Would u recommend stronger axles after doing this?

after welding doesn't the LSD unit have to be balanced?

No hole shots no ripping thru gears no LSD failure you shouldn't be driving like that for track days or on street save that s*** for the drag strip and if you go that route then def. weld it

Search for a thrad by Turfburn, I believe its mostly about the tranny removal.

I have no tire chatter or hop while cornering. Remember, you aren't welding the gears together, you're just reinforcing the housing. The function of the LSD does not change. Stock axles are fine. The MSP already has larger axles than a normal Protege.

Balancing it will only be a problem if the welding is uneven. Tons of people, including myself, have not had any balance issues the the diff after welding.

if anybody finds turfburn thread about the lsp weld then i wanna know too i might want to get that done. But Q> Will it effect anything/ and can it still be remove?

not sure what you mean.. do you mean "No hole shots, no ripping thru gears = no LSD failure" and LSD should be welded for drag strip only?

Yeah thats what I mean I have not had a problem with LSD failure on track and have done probably twenty track days But one hole shot in Lincoln Tunnel going into NY did it what an adventure that was.

I thought someone on here had the exact weld spots required to properly strengthen the LSD.
I'm buying an MSP tranny, figured I might as well reinforce the LSD before I snap it (which I will do, fast)

Is it wheel hop that cause most of them to snap? I was told to reduce wheel hop that the stiffer motor mounts will help. Is that true?

not all the time its a helpin factor tho. i snapped 2 lsd's already one with stock motor mounts wheel hop from the drags and 2 days later i took a left turn at 5 mph so as i straightened out the wheels to go straight i heard grinding then a nice pop and there went the first one, the second awr motor mounts all 4 and just daily driving with a foot thats like a brick (lol meaning i don't have a light foot jus about floor board all the time) and car felt kinda sluggish thought my spec stage 2 clutch was wearin down so tried to chirp second and boom went lsd number 2. but its also a factor that i have boostin 12psi on the second lsd.

Did you weld the second one?

no i didn't and my third i wanted to weld it since i blew a rod bearing and forged my motor i didn't get a chance cuz im moving and needed it up and running cuz didn't want to pay 1grand to tow it well actually i don't have a grand to tow lol

Just get a Quaife LSD and dont worry about welding it!

/i can dream haha, ill prob buy it b4 i buy the built motor though, good investment i'd say.
