alright guys.. so im coming home tonight about 30 mins ago, and i put my car in first gear to go, i got to about 2 miles per hour, and the engine just made this CRACKK noise. then it just reved uo like i was in nuetral. so i glided into a parking lot, put it in first to see if it was my diff. and once again around 2 mph. and the worst nose i think a car could ever make.. it sounded like i was draging a block of steel. so if any one knows what the problem is, blown engine or broken diff. please help. ive got aroiund 73000 miles on it with an exhaust that was put on about 3000 miles ago.. its been stock all 70000 miles?????
thanks in advance,
mike

usually if the LSD goes, wen u try to go, just letting out the clutch and giving it some gas the car will maybe barely go and make a grinding noise. one time my cold pipe POPPED off my throttle body and made the car screw up. check all ur pipes! dont rely on sight, pull on them all. i dont remember any noise wen my LSD went, but i was goin on the highway... look for info on funny sounds heer: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64821 and heer: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123650578 http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123646497 http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92110&page=22

if you blew your motor, it'll more than likely be a snapped rod in which case the sound you'll hear is a tapping/knocking noise coming from your engine, not a grinding noise. that is the sound of the rod slapping around in the cylinder. so it doesn't sound like you have a blown motor.

yes that exacttly what its doing.. goes like 2 feet and just grinddddddddsssss... but when i rralized somethign was wrong, all it di was just go crack and rev up to redline

ok so when i went to the car this morning, i started it up to move it back so we could tow it. and when it started it was making some pretty weird noises, so if any one has ever had theyre lsd go, if you could explain to me if these noises are coming from the lsd or if i f***ed up the clutch pressure plate flywheel and clutch?

i was witness in one of my friends MSP when his LSD blew and what you are describing sounds exactly like what happend. The car made some aweful grinding noises that were really loud and anytime he stepped on the gas the car would move a little then it would just rev without getting any power to the wheels.

alright, thanks alot. so glad my motor didnt go cause im not under warrenty. but any ways, did he have to replace anything else like clutch or any of that? and can you take the broken one out and have it welded somewhere?

It souinds like the diff to me too, I had mine go and it sounds exactly like what you described. I was ablt to get the car to get up to about 10-15 mph but it took a long time to get there and very soft on the gas. I would try and not to move it incase anything broke off inside it could get caught between the teeth and break something else. The diff has to be replaced. I haven't heard anything good with welding the broken diff. There are a few selling welded new diffs though.

my advice to you would be if you can and need to change the clutch with the new dif and have the new dif welded the old one is basically just junk hate to tell you bro sorry... Good luck

I have a "rewelded" one, no problems so far (fixed in July of this year, IIRC ~75k, now i'm @ 95k).... and i replaced my clutch/flywheel while everything was out...

of course, nothing else was broken when the transmission was taken apart.

thats good, thanks for all the info guys. does anone know how much the diff is if i buy it from mazda? cause im going to show my dad the quaife diff. and the price difference and prove to him that aftermarket is better.. im just crossing my fingers that my tranny is ok. im sure it will be because the second i heard the pop and it just rev up like crazy i put the clutch in and popped it into nuetral and rolled to a good parking lot.
