Low speed hollow clunking sound

Mazda Protege 1999 2.0 5sp manual, 270+ Km. At low speed (either coming to a stop or starting off) there is a low hollow clunking sound coming from (I think) center of car just behind the engine. Mechanic recently replaced tie-rod ends, ball joints, brakes all-round, rear struts but has not solved the problem. The problem is not worse if cornering.

Should I be in the tranny forum?

Trailing arms. I just replaced the same thing on my 2003 ES. I put on a set of Megan Racing arms. Solved the problem.

Thanks for the replies. Mechanic replaced a faulty strut. Seems better now. Did have they check the swar bar links as well.
