low rpms bad?

Just curious if there are any risks in running an engine at very low rpms(besides stalling and having no hp). Can it be harmful to the engine to stay in a high gear at a low speed? Is the answer the same for turbo and NA cars?

It's not good, but if you are just coasting you'll be okay if your not doing it all the time. But it is bad if you try to accelerate in a high gear at a low speed, you might warp something, but I'm not sure how these cars take it.

Yes accelerating in too high of a gear puts a lot of strain on the drivetrain. Just downshift and be done with it.

Think about it this way. When you have your ten speed bike, how do your legs feel after you try to accelerate from a stop as hard as you can in tenth gear? Imagine your tranny, drive axels, gears, etc...

The idea is to cruise at a low, but reasonable RPM for the engine to just humm...but when you need to accelerate, you need to be able to get the power to the ground in a more efficient manner, with as little load as possible on your powertrain.
