50/55w HIDs?

I'm about to pull the trigger on TRS HID PnP kit for my CX-5 w/projectors but was wondering if I should go with 35w or 50w bulb

I did a search and some folks appear to be okay with 50w? Factory H11 bulb is 55W and I think the HID's would run a little cooler than halogens but I could be wrong.

My opinion is stick to the 35W bulb/ballast. It's already much brighter than the standard bulbs, going brighter still will just blind oncomers more, without giving you greater range due to the sharp low-beam cutoff.

In addition, there is a substantial surge of current when the bulbs 'fire up' which can blow your standard wiring if using higher wattage ballasts. So if you get 50W-ers, you'll need to add a relay harness and a separate source of 12V power direct from the battery.

Great advice Red and I'll go with the 35w ballast.

1. I heard there is a newer TRS XB35. I was thinking of going with that versus standard
2. Thoughts on TRS vs Lights-pros.com in terms of quality HID kits?
