Loud thunk! opinions please!

So I tried a launch today and wanted to see what would happen if I gave it like 3k rpms and launched. WELL, I got a s*** ton of wheel spin (duh) but also a loud THUNK from the bottom left hand area of the cockpit. I immediately thought, 'oh nos the mounts'. Any ideas as to what that loud ass thunk was as I let the clutch out? Was it the diff? Was it cause i had the a/c on? Am I in hurtsville?

same stuff happened to me during a drag launch before my engine fell out a few hundred miles later. If you haven't the recall done yet, immediately get it to the dealer.

If you have, then check the mount for any failures. I haven't had any major clunks since my recall swap.

First dont try to launch with the A/C on, it wont hurt anything but it does require horsepower to run the A/C. Im guessing you didnt turn you traction control off and what you heard was the limited slip differential catching. Dont launch with your traction control on, because its designed that if a wheel spins it wont allow any more acceleration until the wheel catches. Pretty sure thats what happened. Youre fine just turn that off in the future if you are launching hard. But check the mounts anyway.

I turned off the traction control like 10 seconds before I did the launch. Is it possible that the system hadnt quite deactivated it yet? Also I know the a/c robs power I just wasnt really thinking about it and forgot the take the ac off. It was LOUD LOUD thunk (boom02). What do I need to check for when Im looking at the mounts

Oh.......:( i dont know then homie. Look at the mounts for signs of wear. Im sure you are aware of the bad mount problem that plagued earlier models. Basically what fourthmeal said.

I'm telling ya,...its the same thing that happened to me,

BTW, since there is a Recall on the mount, you need to go get it done ASAP anyway. I bet you its on borrowed time at this point. I'm dead serious here, losing your engine isn't a good thing, and it totally ruins your day. Way worse then a flat tire, I promise.

BTW, A/C is a non issue since there is a bypass built into the MS3...it shuts the A/C compressor off under WOT moments.

maybe there was something in the road that your tire cuaght on

Thats what my brother thought. As for the recall, when I bought the car I asked them 'hey, i know you guys say here with a checkmark that you did all the recalls, but can you go through your records and make sure?' They came back saying that the motor mount recall issue had been addressed. This was at Jim Ellis Mazda in Marietta Georgia. Im prolly gonna take it to another dealer just to make sure cause I dont trust stealerships. In reality this is just all the more reason to get a sturdy aftermarket mount when I get order the MS CAI.
