Loud squeaking?

Ok, so I am not really that much of an engine person...
Lately when I have been starting my car I have been hearing a loud squeaking from the engine bay. Its usually when I first start off. It will start up again only if I would stop at a stop light and start again or something. after awhile of driving it will go away... is this a belt that needs replacing? or just stupid cold weather.?

altenator pully is bent or something. I had the same problem.. scratched my head for months, changed the power steering pully because it looked like it was rubbing.. but one day, bam! the altenator pully snaped, brought it to get replaced and they informed me that our altenators are s*** and this happens often.

Insted of starting a new thread i figured I'll just post in this one again!

I am starting to have the same damn issue. Its only on Cold days.... and it will go away after about 40 sec.

I'm starting to think it has to do with power steering?

Any suggestions would work.

Sounds like belts more than anything...if it goes away. Mine squeak a little when it's cold but goes away when the belts warm up a little. My friends car squeaked like crazy and he tried belt dressing and it made it worse...finally got new belt and now it's quiet. Power steering sounds like a whine not a squeak. How many miles on the belts?

well I put a new alternator belt in like January of this year, so not to many....

I'll take a video of it next time it happens again.

I have the same problem. I posted a thread a few weeks ago.

"Well, whenever I start my car (yellow MP3) something in the hood towards the right of the hood (when I'm in the driver's seat) will squeal/squeak. It'll sound like smearing your hand on glass. It'll do it for about 5 seconds and then stop. But sometimes it'll squeak again while I drive. I think this only happens when I don't warm my car long enough or when it's cold? Is there a way to fix this? What should I do? Also, I know basically NOTHING about cars."

My wife's car has some belt squeal on occasion when it first starts up. Another thing on the list of things to fix.

maybe spray some belt dressing and see if that fixes your issue

my belt squels and wines as soon as i start the car and everytime i turn the a/c on, and i had recently changed the belts. what could this be?
