Loud a/c compressor?

All,

I noticed yesterday that the A/C compressor, when it kicks on in a rather cyclic fashion, is pretty loud. I can hear it with the windows up in my car, if the radio is off. At first I thought it was a problem with my engine, but it only kicks in with my A/C. My dad and I diagnosed it to the compressor, but I'm not sure if it is normal. I leave for school tomorrow so I don't have time to bring it to my local Mazda right now. Thoughts? A/C works great, cools well and no smells or anything.

could be a loose bolt or something and when it kicks on its rattling??? not sure what type of noise you are hearing but it could be something simple like that.

i've changed a few compressor clutches due to noise, it can almost sound like a top end noise when they get really bad.
