Lots of blue smoke when idling for 5 min

I have a 2007. I know about the turbo seal issue some have been reporting. My car doesn't blow smoke all the time just after It is idling, like at a long light. If I "rev it" it stops for a min or two but then comes back. doesn't do it all the time however. No smoke when driving so I am not convinced that it's the turbo seals.

input?

Mazda deemed it to be the pcv and not the turbo seals. Mine is doing the same as yours and also in traffic. Take it to your dealer and let them know that you're expeciencing the issue so it's on record for when they come out with a fix which, I was told, would be mid-2010 so it should be soon, hopefully

Smoke when driving would be your rings, not your turbo seals. Turbo seals often show their fail at idle, because the stuffed up crankcase pressure can be alot higher than the exhaust stream pressure at those low rpms.

Appreciate both comments. Still under warranty which is good. I will take it to the dealer this week. Anyone else, please feel free to chime in.

Ahahaha )) English is not my native language, but this one is the best joke I heard this week!!! :)

To not to flame: Loose, there were tons of discussions here, you can just search. To summarize - If you're smoking, then 1) the seals are weared and/or 2) pressure excess drives an oil through ventilation into intake. You can try PCV fix (little pille in the crankcase ventilation hose), it helps removing smoke for 4 out of 5 cases. You can install oil catch can - it will help even more.
My camrade who's repairing and refurnishing turbos, he also said the turbine used in our cars has little drawback - under harsh engages or stops when revving much, one bearing begins to press on another, and begins to turn it. So as an option is changing all bearings and seals (K04 repair set is about 80-100$). But the problem will rise in a year or two again.
May be, PG reworked turbo deals with it - don't know.

Glad you like joke, what a country ;-)

the pill does M+NOT go in the PCV, it restricts oil to the turbo bearing so the seal stays happy

Thank you for pointing out the obvious "Mr. I just joined 2 months ago and I have 35 posts."

Dealer today told me that they will first change the oil to 5w40 and see if it still occurs. If it continues then they will petition Mazda North America to replace the turbo. The fact that I have not modded my car will play a large roll in Mazda's decision to replace the turbo according to the Service Manger.

My car has 36817 miles as of today. It has been occurring for the last 1000 miles or so on and off. I had read the posts (after doing an extensive search Jackis), and have already replaced the crankcase oil with 5w40 last week and yesterday was the first day it re-occurred. I started this thread to see what everyone else's experiences have been and I recognize that there are several other threads on the subject I was hoping someone would post some vulgar BS in this thread which is way I started it.

The dealer, which is where I get all my service, knows that the car is no abused. I changed my tires at 30K and they were the originals. He states that the Turbo will "most likely" be covered under the drivetrain warranty. I told him if it's not I will just take the car across the street to the Caddy dealer and trade it in on a CTS-V. He didn't laugh, although I am serious

For all with constructive input...it's appreciated

For everyone else....you have just re-enforced why this was my first thread in a quite a while.

Thanx Antoine for convincing me to "participate."

Thanx, that is the EXACT same story I got today at the dealer.

Umm, no, the "pill" does go into the PCV hose connected to the intake. The "bolt" goes into the turbo oil line and restricts oil flow to the bearings.

Sorry, Loose, God knows - I didn't want to hurt you. Yes, I am new here, but I just wanted to say that the problem you have is quite common, not to point you to search. Don't take it up to yourself, may be, lack of language doesn't allow me to express my thoughts clearly.

Well, about the warranty - you are lucky you still have it. Here in Europe we don't have 5 years drivetrain warranty, and mine turbo started smoking after 3 years of expluatation (and after I installed catless DP). So I was ready to it, took the turbo out, bought PTP fix and installed it, went to a turbo-repairing shop. They chaged me bearings and seals, rebalanced turbo, I took it back and I'm not smoking now. If I smoke again, I would buy oil catch can.

I think that this is quite constructive. I also think my first post was. Doesn't it?

I took my 07 into the dealership on Wednesday for the exact same thing. I have 45k miles on my car and bought it brand new.
After they inspected the car they told me it needed a new turbo and maybe it would be covered.
Finally, yesterday they said that the warranty repair was authorized and they would fix it. I have no mods and have been good to the car so I guess I got lucky.
