Losing my ms3, What should I get?

being 19 i have to say don't finance anything. find something you can pay cash for and once you've established that you have a steady source of income and have saved for a while then you can consider financing something. paying interest sucks and being forced to pay however many hundred dollars/month regardless of whatever else is going on in your life is equally as awful

Buy a beater; something like a 4 to 6 year old Honda or Toyota that won't cost much to run. Do not go out to buy a new car or consider making payments on a $15k car as it's not a great way to start off life.

Yeah, going from a MS3 to a civic/corolla isn't fun but then is being in debt and living beyond your means fun? Ask a few who have lost quite a bit in this recent market downturn and some of them probably wouldn't have lived beyond their means if they knew it would come to this.

get a late 90's Civic EX or SI. It will be decently priced, reliable as hell and still enjoyable to drive/mod plus good gas mileage.

If you have no credit, now's the time! Have your parents co-sign on a loan for a $5,000 to $10,000ish used car and get that credit score rolling.

Buy a beater a older model civic, integra, maybe a used wrx of some sort, just something reliable until you have enough money saved for the car you REALLY want. It might seem like its the worst time ever in your life giving up the ms3, but remember its still just a car, there are plenty other things to worry about besides giving up a ride no matter how bad ass it is or was. Just my .02. You can do it.

Like everyone said, I took the $500 I had at any given time and went from beater to beater. If nothing else, you don't need to make payments on beaters. Even if they die after a year, break it down man, thats almost nothing per month if it's $500-1k.

Your financial and living situation seem to suck. Hang in there. Work hard and plan as best you can. Map out the next few months to year or more of your life and work towards making it all happen. Once you can survive on your own, then you can make time and money for things like nice, fast, or expensive cars.

Best of luck!!

I'm moving out and my parents are selling the MS3 because it's in their name, What type of car should I go for? I have no credit, Not bad credit just no credit.

Should I spend a few grand and get a beater or a little more and get something nicer, Any suggestions?

I really want the new civic hybrid but with no credit I don't see me getting a brand new car.

get something dirt cheap and reliable man, you are just starting out, don't get in debt for a sub par car, get the crappy one, build some credit, get a good job, and THAN buy the nice. Get a some crappy first though man.

get honda civic in good shape fo 3k it will last just dont start modding it......so thats why you should get at tranny:P

My parents and I aren't really on the best of terms. I don't want to get into it but they aren't happy with the way I'm living my life so they don't want to do much to help me out. They won't co-sign.

that's the problem right there

You can find Se-r Spec V's for anywhere from 6-8 grand. IMHO, they're nice looking, quick, and dependable (as long as you check the oil frequently). Or if you're looking to spend like 2-4 grand pick up a 91-94 Se-R. You could actually get a nice one, even boosted for like 4 g's. GL

I would go with the SR20 engine well before the Se-R spec v 2.5L engine. I used to be in the spec-v scene, and I did and spend a good bit of money on my car, but the engine has major issues, I got lucky to get nissan to replace the engine and than I sold that thing asap. Alot of people on the forums are having problems.

You mentioned having no credit, but don't mention your cash flow, savings, etc. If you have no savings & low cash flow, $10k might be a bit much once you figure in rent, food, utilities, etc. Whatever you do, do NOT finance thru a "buy here, pay here" type of place. I would only buy used from a new car dealership- never a mom & pop dealership, as they tend to be shady.

Beyond that, most of their inventory tends to come from dealership cast-offs at auction. To be fair, some of their cars may be legit & quite nice. But most of it was passed over by real dealers because they didn't pass quality inspection, or have excessively high miles. (Think odometer rollback)

Best of luck in the search, though.

if you fly out to VA you can drive back in my 02 LX with 110K miles, i'll give it to you for 3500, it has the 2003.5 msp body kit with 4 wheel disk brake swap and the black interior as well. click the link in my sig and you can see some pics of the car

I've owned 7 cars that had the sr20 in them, and yes, they are a much "better" motor than the qr25. I have never owned a qr25 so correct me where I'm wrong but I thought the only real problem (which is a big one) is the problem of oil starvation causing a lot of spun bearings, and also the pre-cats clog easily and w/out notice.

If you go on sr20forum.com you can find pretty clean boosted B13 se-r's for around 4 grand. Great deal considering with even a very basic turbo set-up, I as well as others have made 220hp on only 6psi. That much power in a 2300lb car is really fun...

that msp looks reasonable, especially if you can talk him down some, the 02lx is a deal too, for that price you can easily afford it, and an old se-r would be a fantastic car. you got tons of options.

As a former QR25DE owner, I'll chime in. Among several issues, the main problems are disintegrating pre-cats that get sucked back into the engine and blown head gaskets (usually right after the powertrain warranty is up). Bad ring seals became an issue in MY06 when Nissan switched vendors. It was meant to be a small displacement, everyman's engine, not one that sees continual abuse on the track.
