hey all. just noticed something.

when I'm in any gear, the shifter has way too much play IMO. So much so that it makes this annoying vibrating noise.

is this syncros?

its like my sisters 92 protege (with 120000 miles) its just way too easy to move the shifter around while in gear. Its not tight at all.,

Help. (warranty?)

thanks.

no i dont. everything think shifter related is stock.

what is this? something just loose? or is it like syncros (no idea)

I doubt synchros. Sounds like your bushings have gone to crap. No surprise there. I pulled mine out the other day when I was changing out my shifter and they were already like jello.

the play he is talking about is not related to the bushings which are not actually for the linkage going to the tranny, but the actual connection to the tranny. When his engine was taken out this had to be disconnected im pretty sure, and perhaps its not tightened up right

the engine wasn't taken out just the cylinder head off and thats about it (unless they didn't tell me)

either case, the car is going in for the windshield molding fix.

Any other TSBs I should get all set?

i was thinking shift fork too. what does that all involve (how will they know if its gone bad) and how can something like that bust

This sounds like my shifter right before my linkage came apart. I did not come apart at the bushings, but it came apart at the shift linkage that leads to the engine. I could move it all around while in gear then next time I stopped at the store I had no gears at all. I could freely move the shifter around like it was connected to nothing.
I ended up having my car towed to the dealer, and they fixed it for 42.00. This was because I have a B&M SS and the kartboy bushings, so no warranty. I have had this setup for almost a year and a half. This was the first problem I had. Be careful you might want to throw it up on a jack to tighten up the linkage with a wrench. It is very easy. Otherwise you could find yourself in the cold stranded like I was.

What? What linkage goes to the engine? Are you talking about the shift linkage that attaches to the side of the tranny? What bushings are you talking about, the ones for the linkage (next to tranny - like the Kartboy bushings) or the ones at the bottom of the shifter stick?

I'm just asking because recently my shifter has also felt looser, and I have the Kartboy bushings and SS. I guess I'll recheck things under there and make sure stuff is torqued right.

my did this right before the nut that holds my shifter together at the bushings and shift arms fell off...that sucked.

I am talking about the arm that leads to the tranny yes. ANd I do have the Kartboy Bushings Yes. I think they only made one application.

Cool. Yeah, I guess by the looks of the answers I just have to check those 2 connections.

so since im stock im assuming this is warranty.

aftermarket shifters and bushings dont void any of the warranty unless it was something like your shifter cracked in half or your bushings split which is udnerstandable that they wouldn't cover someone elses part.
