Looking for advise on buying 22-23 CX-5 Turbo

I am looking to buy a 22-23 CX-5 Turbo, I have looked at dang near everything out there. I’m coming from a 2006 4Runner 4wd, and although I like the 4R, I’d like a little more luxury, speed and tech. The Turbo checks almost all boxes - affordable, quick, comfy, good tech, great design. What other pleasant surprises should I expect in the change from the 20 year old Toyota? Any advise, when I’m ready to pull the trigger, on what I should pay attention to in a lightly used model?

Generally you just want to check everything that you'd normally check when you buy a used vehicle, like interior and exterior condition, undercarriage and door jambs (to look for significant rust), under the hood to check for leaks. Check vehicle history for reported accidents, and service history for maintenance. 2022+ turbo models are the most reliable examples with the least potential to develop major mechanical or electrical issues.

I personally would skip out on any extras that the dealer will likely try to push, like extended warranty, rust protection, wax/sealant/coating, and maintenance packages. You can get the same (or better) sealant from an off-the-shelf product at your local parts store, like a $20 bottle of Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating. And basic maintenance on this car is very easy if you want to DIY, but if you'd rather pay someone else to do it, you can take it to a reputable independent shop and have them do the work. As long as you keep the invoice showing the work that was performed and the parts that were used, your warranty remains intact.

One more thing, modern paint across the board is thin and soft - Mazda's paint is no exception. Unless the car has paint protection film that was applied when it was new, it will likely have some minor rock chips on the hood, fenders, bumper, and possibly the A-pillars and roof. Just something to keep in mind.
