So i have thrown a rod in my msp and was told i was lucky and might be able to fix my engine because where the rod came out. anyways i was thinking about parting out the car because they said to fix, machine, and forge the engine was going to be around $3000 and i wasnt sure if that was a good idea. so my main questions are should i:
1. sell as is, part out, or forge and sell shortly after
- if i forge engine the guy said hed want to put his forged rods in because they were better than the putter and weisco rods..
2. for best selling should i go with the rods everyone here uses or should i go with the "better" rods?

If you are going to sell it don't put in a forged engine. Get a replacement used motor and put that in. I did that after my first motor went (broken waste gate caused a 22psi spike) and only spent $1200 to have a used motor bought, shipped to texas and installed.

I'm not sure what "better" rods he has but you can't go wrong with the tried and true ones that are available (Pauter, Molnar, K1, Crower). Unless he's machining rods on his own (which I have to imagine will cost you a pretty penny) he would also need to do a lot of research in order to do that. If you have full intention on selling than I would advise you to just get a junkyard FS-DE and do a swap because you'll never get your money back selling the car after the Forged components are installed. So all and all I agree with TX Speed Demon.

What rods does he want to use that are better than the rods already offered??

well i was thinking i should forge it because i see they go for around $8000 give or take and a non forged msp goes for much less.. like $5000 or a bit more.. i am not sure what rods he is talking about using but when i told him that everyone on the forum seems to be using pauter, k1, and wiseco parts he told me he doesnt like them and he knew what was best and i knew nothing about anything because i just read what is on the forum and you all are just people who work for those companies.. blah blah blah.. he is the type that knows all and its his business so everyone else knows nothing.. i can try finding out what rods and pistons he wants to use.. but i love my car, i just really need something reliable and this thing has given me headache after headache.. but the challenging thing now is i want a reliable car and now this car might be much more reliable now that i have fixed all the problems.. im just worried about the LSD going bad.. idk what to do at all..

Forged goodies are a good start... but along with that are many other small things and a few more big ones that add up. Keeping the boost down enough to keep everything else spinning freely in the meantime is usually the problem!

Nothing is stronger than Pauter rods, K1 rods will get the job done in most cases. Your mechanic is either biased towards another brand or stupid.

If you are going to sell, it will be easier with a running car. You'll get more return on investment with a junk yard motor than you would with a forged motor. Spending $4k to get an extra $3k is silly.

if i were to keep the car i would want the motor to be forged.. but that is if i were to keep it. i understand that the rods most people use on here are very strong and handle much more power i think i would ever reach. i have a feeling he is biased but he also said that he wouldnt put in any other brands because of the warranty.. i will have to find out what exactly he wants to put in. so what i am figuring is if i want to keep the car then forge it.. but if i want to sell once its running then throw in a stock motor. i appreciate all the quick responses!! =)

Keep in mind there are forged MSPs for sale for only $5-6k, not $8k. Order a forged short block from Speed Circuit or somewhere and drop it in so you don't have to deal with your mechanic

Yeah, forged MSPs don't normally sell for $8k. Of course there are exceptions. Hell, Ryan sold his for $8500 last year with a completely stock bottom end, but it had EVERY freaking bolt-on that there could ever be for the car and was very aesthetically pleasing. I have mine listed for $5500obo, but I really expect about $4500 out of it and I'm forged.

really? i guess i was greatly mistaken about the price i could sell it for. so i think i have decided to forge it and keep it awhile and when im ready to find something else, ill just cut my losses and know i had fun with the car! you all were very helpful and im glad i could get your alls opinion!!
