Looking at a Mazda 6 S

I've found a 2004 Mazda 6S I'm interested in. I'm new to Mazda but this looks like a sweet car.It's a 3 litre auto with 44,710 miles. Are there any specific things I should be aware of ? I've been looking around this site and there seems to be a mountain of info. Any suggestions would be helpful. My wife and I LOVE this car. The deal is coming together and my mechanic has already looked it over. Barring anything that could be major headaches WE WANT IT.

I own a Speed6, so I can't be of direct help here. I can't say I've really heard of too many complaints or issues with the 6s on the boards. Everything that I have heard any decent mechanic should easily be able to spot (ticking engines, clunk in the steering, etc.)

You might also want to search the boards for "6S" or "6 Sport" and see what comes up.

Thanks. We picked it up last night. More driving revealed how different the car is from our previous Chevies. Now, if I can get the dealership to get rid of the CEL, we'll be good. We haven't even put gas in it yet,but I'll check the gas cap before I leave for work.

i had a 6s. it was a great car. alot of fun to drive, and kept me safe in my accident. there isnt much of an aftermarket for it however....

The CEL didn't show up until 1 1/2 hours after we drove off the lot. I test drove the car for 15-20 minutes on various types of roads and left it running while I looked it over back at the lot. My mechanic also drove it for a while. when he checked it over. Crap happens. We have factory warranty left and 3 year extended was included.We also paid $120.00 to add another year to that.
It's at the dealership now. They';re really being cool about it. I spoke with the service manager and he's being very acomodating. Kudos to them so far.

Update: All's good. New Cat and everything's fine. The service mgr provided me with the service history print out and it drives great. Gotta love this car.
