Look what I found on the solara forums !!!

this is what one of the guys said:
""wow.... thats digusting mazda proteges are extremely slow.. i drive a celica gt 5-speed with only exhaust and intake and can beat those starting in 2nd gear no problem at all.. lol...

ps.. i'll give u credit tho u came out and admitted it..""

wow... i bet this guy can probably beat a M3 starting in first gear then...
or he has probably been beating his little friend down there too much

my P5 is slow...but damn if it doesn't look better than most other cars out there

Somehow, I don't feel that our P5 is THAT slow.
Since the handling is so outstanding, it gives me so much confidence to drive faster, passing all the traffic on the highway. I always find myself driving faster than other cars on freeway without really pushing very hard on my P5.

i think people underestimate the handling ability of the p5. it handles very well for a stock suspension on a <$20,000 car. and it looks awesome too :D

Look at it this way too regarding the solara's stats.
200hp 145torque v6.
so figure 170whp on a car that probably weighs 1000lb more.
now its closer to 150whp on a protege. and the v6 revs slower
that sounds like a msp or turbo p5 territory....
and the handling of our cars would surely humble any solara.. msp or p5/es
another thing about recent toyotas is that their powerbands kinda suck. The matrix180hp and celica GTS dont start pulling until close to redline, VVTI i think.
Personally, even with my setup i think i could keep with a solara... i mean cmon its a big boat :D
and the celica GT... i have definately handled those.

that 180hp vvti engine from the matrix and gt-s are not impressive to me at all. i think they are both slow

Indeed, and the cars they put them in are quite heavy, the power to weight ratio is not great at all.

20k? s*** man I paid 13,500 for mine.

Why am I supposed to be impressed that a family sedan lost to an econo-car? Or even if it was the other way around...who cares?

But they're pure evil when boosted...1zz ownz. It's kinda like a Yamaha B16.

hahaha, I bet that post won't be well received!!

Since you've signed up over there see if they have a Southeast are or whatnot and see if you can find any alabama folks that want to put it to the test. Track opens on friday and I have a feeling I'm a good .3s faster than I was....not to mention I have wider tires now so I can dump it a little more.

Some of you guys are misinformed due to some people posting the wrong facts and figures.

Assuming the Solara V6 is the same 3.0L unit in the Camry, it makes 194hp and 209lb/ft torque. . That's a crapload more than any NA Protege, and they are faster off the line contrary to popular belief.

The VVT-i technology actually helps the engines develop a wide torque band, in addition to better fuel economy. It is variable valve timing on the intake cam for most Toyota cars here. It's basically cam advance. The VVT-Li is what you find in the 2GG-ZE, the Celica GTS and Matrix XRS engines. It is similar to DOHC VTEC where there is a change in cam profile. It is for high rev, high horsepower applications. Hence, power nead redline.

And like Replica said in his post, who actually care what people say?

If I took offense for everything negative said about the Protege, I wouldn't have time for anything else.

Ah, you may have sounded better if you asked what he runs in the 1/4? Chances are he has never even raced in the 1/4 OR raced a Mazda.

You did not come across being that mature.

probabaly because I am not mature.

Its funny how this guy is making excuses and stuff.
"It was only about 10 degrees farenheit(Northeast) , and I didn't know how much I trusted the grip of my tires. The road was curvy and at the speeds we were going"

He lost and he knows it.

I don't see why all the fuss about racing a station wagon, it's just a way to get to work and back. If you want to race get a Corvette.

corvettes are for old people who want to look fast. It's much more impressive to go to the drag strip and watch a 17yr old in a VW Golf TDi out run a Z06 than a Z06 outrun a Cobra.

Taking a "slow car" and making it fast is impressive. Taking a fast car and looking like a dork in it isn't impressive.
