Look what I found on the solara forums !!!

it rattles apart. my coworker said it best: "i'm glad i owned one, but i'll never buy another" and that's from someone who knows the history and every detail of a vette...and besides, it's a chevy car. they're known for that s***.

I wouldn't own one. Even if I won one in a contest I'd sell it and buy something else. Sure they're fast....in an "old school" style of thinking...Hell, lets just throw a bigger motor at it! That fixes everything!!

don't get me wrong....the old 'vettes are NICE. I think they took a downward spiral right about 1990. They've just been unimpressive and uninspired ever since. I look at a vette and say "another vette". I get excited though when I pass another P5 on the road....there's a lot less P5's than vettes here!

Dude, unimpressed by the Vette! Come on! Who cares how it does it, it's fast, handles well, and in looks good (looks of course being totally subjective). The Z06 is simply awesome, think of the cars it runs with, then compare prices. I love my P5, but give me a Vette anyday (well, maybe not one from the early 90's). You make it sound like a bad thing that they just keep putting a bigger motor in it. It's fast and doesn't break the bank (well, it would break my bank, but the dollar/fun ratio is pretty dang high). I'll take a little less technology for cheap speed. Plus those motor are rock solid and because of gearing and torque get good mileage on the highway. I have lots of respect for high tech motors putting down good numbers, but there are many ways to go fast.

Oh yeah, I live in Wisconsin, it's winter for a long time here, so I see more P5's then Vettes. In the last month I've seen more turbo P5's (one) than Vettes (zero).

I don't consider $40K+ affordable by any means....maybe I'm just poor white trash, but My limit is about $30K and thats me tightening my belt. VERY few people who buy a vette buy it for the correct reasons...they're show-pieces...vehicluar pissing contests, and the guy in the vette has a curved wanker.

poor white trash and 30,000 in the same sentence? You know you could pay off two trailer homes with that much, if not three.

actually,. mobile homes are getting on up there....I saw some advertised on tv that were double wides, fully furnished for $75K.....they actually looked nice from the inside...the outside is another story.

I have a small 3 bedroom house that has the "rectangular trailer" look from the outside, but it's just an old house that wasn't designed to be modern or trendy. The best part is that my 3bed/2bath house on a full acre of land costs me $360/month on a 15yr loan and that is exactly half of what my 1 bedroom apartment was when my wife and I were dating.

I'm talking about a real trailer home. Double and triple wides are retarded, if you are gonan pay 30K+ for a trailer home, just buy a damn house that doesn't park.

true.....I'm going to take some pictures for you though....nothing against anyone here but there are so many run down trailers here with brand new vettes parked in the yard (I mean yards...no driveway even). There is at least 3 one street over from where i live.

Someone's priorities are WAY out of whack.

Well it's not un natural to see pimped out caddy's or pimped out SUVs in the ghetto with big ass rims, now is it? Parked in front of a house with the front yard gate hanging off the hinge. A lot of different people hold many things in priority over what would seem more important

I consider WHERE you live more important than WHAT you live in. The safest place I've ever been didn't even have a police department.. My parents own a house on the river. The nearest police station is an hour away. Everyone knows everyone else and they all just sit around and watch your property all day! I feel REAL bad for the person who tries to break into my folks cabin.

I took a giurlfriend up their "parking" one night and was approached by a toothless guy toting two shotguns. He wanted me up and out of there in 2 minutes!! I had to hand him my wallet with my ID before he'd believe me that I was my fathers son.

Hey turbo matty, you live on an acre of land, nice! I will not buy a house unless it has a decent size yard (an acre of yard, well that would just kick ass!). And you live in Birmingham, did you watch any of the Mens Marathon Olympic Trials a couple of weekends back?

Anyway, I was just trying to point out that although to you (and to me!) that the Vette is pricey, compared to the cars it competes with, it's one hell of a bargin. If you can afford a 30K car, your a couple tax brackets above me!

I live 20 miles south of B'ham....running is not my thing. You couldn't make me run if you had a gun pointed at my head!

buying an older house "in the sticks" has afforded me a lot of things. Right now my wife is in school full time getting her masters in Pyschology/Medical Sociology, we both drive "relativly" new cars and have a fully remodled home. We're not living like Kings, but we're not "lean and mean" either. We do all of this on just my salary so it's more of struggle.

You don't think an EVO8 for $26K would hold it's own with a Z06?? I do.

We beat a Toyota Solara (naughty) LOL they call the guy a pussy (hah)
here at my university, we have a lot of twisties, anyway a solara was in front of me the other day, purposely going slow then acellerating hard to leave me in the dust. I got left behind at a red, when the light turned green, I was surprised that I easily caught up with him after maybe 5 blocks. Anyway he tried to leave me in the dust again, but the roads ahead were the twistiest on campus, and I stayed right on his tail the whole time. It was to the point where my 2 passengers were complaining that it felt like I was taking it too easily, you couldn't even feel any body lean yet, and I'm still on stock suspension. But you could easily see the huge amt of body roll on the solara during every twisty. That solara was slowing to 35-40 on turns that I can confidently do at 50 without scaring any passengers, and usually no one in the car gets scared till I take those twisties at 60.

chick cars for chicks who only drive automatics!

Celica's are ass...never been a decent celica except the GT4 AWD turbo 2.2L.....it was so good Toyota doesn't make it anymore.
I used to have an 86's celica gt before i got my p5. I'd go as far as to say higher end accel on that car was better than my p5. But it was definitely not as confidence inspiring in the twisties. Also, its low end is almost non-existance, but I still loved that car, just as I love my current car. Bonus being people in the back dont complain about being cramped anymore, and neither I nor the passenger needs to get out to let ppl into the back seat. Oh yea, also my p5 doesn't eat oil like my celica, and it doesn't skid when I brake hard in the rain. But my p5 doesn't smoke or chirp its tires like my celica, probably cuz my p5's tires aren't nearly bald like my celica ones were.

Ok Ok this thread sucks but I gotta bring up one quick thing.......... THEY HAVE SOLARA FORUMS???? And people talk to one another about their SOLARAS?
