Long-Term Test Update: 2007 Mazdaspeed3

Actually you dont need to sell your car just need to take a statistics class... you can NOT assume because ONE car had a bad shock that hence ALL the shocks in ALL the MS3's wont last past 30k miles...for all we know one of their editors had a large pothole in front of their house they hit every day or the guy assembling the shock was pissed at his girlfriend that day and took it out on the shock....why is it that so many here in the forum always assume one person's problem is a recuring widespread issue across the entire model

In reality if you read the magazine and all the reports on a consistent basis this long term report is rather good... a lot of cars out there take 10x the maintenance cost with a lot more issues reported...

And you sir need to get off my nutz! I did not say nor imply that all Madaspeed3's are going to need shock replacements at 30k miles. I was just a bit surprised and a tad concerned is all.

Oh crap! I have less than 20,000 miles until my right front shock goes bad!

its really helpful that road and track does the long term tests, but i dont think its necessary to worry that your car will do the EXACT same thing. thats interesting to hear about the shocks though, good thing i bought coilovers! imagine how long the stockers would last with a short pair of springs

Keep in mind they are also "Acid Testing" this car. Which means they are not being kind to it at all (except for service.) So things that are likely to fail they will find. I think Mazda also anticipated people putting after market parts on this if they are serious about their handling.

im pretty surprised no one has mentioned anything about the tires. They have 30k on the stock bridgestones! I'm about to get rid of mine at ~15k because they are worn to the point that its scary slick in the rain. I suppose my suspension geometry has changed significantly, but still 30k on this tire is very surprising to me, especially during their "acid testing"

+1

I barely got 12k out of mine. They must have been driving like grandmas or something...

Fair nuff.. Ive just seen way too many posts recently by a lot of people in panic mode every time someone reports something bad... should have made my post more generic and not so specific on you.
