Hey everyone, nov. i will be making a 12 hour back and forth from fresno, Ca to Lynnwood, WA...Just wondering anything I would need to do to prepare my car besides checking oil, fluids, ect..How often should I stop to give the car a break, I def. Dont wanna overload it or blow it up...any info would help..thanks (breakn)

12 hours ride
body, the only time you will have to stop is to put some gas in it and pee
that's it

Just put it on cruise at 70 mph and you're set

I'd recommend bringing a jug of oil just in case. Check this level during your fillups.

Check your tire pressures including your spare.

Other than that she's good to go.

thanks..You guys kick ass...Shes never taken a trip this far before and just want to make it a smooth one...she just passed over 50,000 miles

I always check the oil, tire pressure, washer fluid, and wiper blades before I go on a long trip. I usually bump up the tire pressure 2-3 PSI to get better mileage.

Try not to drive at the same constant speed for too long. Vary it a bit, faster and slower.

Also, pour in a bottle of injector cleaner before your trip... it'll help get rid of all those deposits, if any...

thanks brother..This is why i love these forums..its my home away from home (drive2)

Please have a plan to depart early in the morning and not plan to drive when you are normally asleep (i.e. 'i will drive through the night').

Be careful! Way too many of our soldiers and sailors fall asleep and wake up dead on these long trips!

Check how many miles the total trip is, if you need an oil change make sure you do it before you leave. Check trans fluid before you go, coolant and oil as you fill up for gas. I keep a quart of oil and a bottle of coolant in my car at all times just in case, good idea for long trips especially. I wouldn't make any changes to the car aside from maintenance before a long drive. This just helps ensure no new problems.

car should be fine with normal fluid upkeep and tire pressures.
No real need to vary the speed, never heard that one before. Put it in cruise control and drive. The car is made for it.

Make sure you are awake and alert the whole time.

I've made too many 4, 8, and 12, 16 hour trips to count.

Occasionally watch the guages, use cruise control for best fuel mileage and it doesn't hurt to put some Techron in the tank when you start the trip.

Not a good idea to check the coolant unless you let the car cool down first. No need for 3rd degree burns at the gas station.

You can just look at the resevoir in most cases. But I always keep a towel in my car to protect my hand when opening the coolant if I ever need to. I've never had any problems.

(headbang) becareful and and have some Monsters or Redbulls is a small cooler just in case..

Very True...im actually going to document the whole trip up there, its a pretty scenic trip all the way through so when I touch down I will have a nice juicy thread for everyone to read

Cool, let me know how the YELLOW MP5 does for the long drive. The other colors probably handle it a little different.(cheers2)
