After poping to the local Tesco yesterday, my wife returned to our CX7 opened the car and put the shopping in the car jumped into the drivers seat and closed the door. She put the key in the ignition and tried to start the car but wouldn't start. She tried for a couple of minutes more wouthout any joy. As she hadn't taken her mobile phone with her, she decided to go back into the store and call me for help. She pulled the door handle but the doors were locked. She operated the key fob to open the doors but this did not work. She put the key back in the ignition switched on and tried to operate the window but the windows would not operate. She tried every door including the boot to see if she could find a way out without success.
After banging on the windows for 15 minutes eventually someone heard her and talked to her through the window, got my number and called me as well as the RAC for assistance. When i got to the car some 30 minutes later, she had been trapped inside the car for 90 minutes without any means of escape.
I tried to open the door using the spare key, i then operated the open button on the fob and the door opened.
When the RAC arrived the technician tested the battery and found it to be almost totally discharged. He then boosted it for 5 minutes advising that the battery was taking the charge. He then started the car and soon was able to switch off and start the car with the small charge he had put into the battery. I then drove the car home (which took 5 minutes with the drivers window fully open just in case). When at home we could start and stop the car without any problem.
Understandably my wife is now a little nervous of driving or going into the CX7 so i was hoping someone could explain what happened and possible advise a way of escaping should this ever happen again.
Many thanks in advance
Dave
