So...my time will be up in Turkey come Feb/Mar 2009.

Yesterday the choices for my next assignment was released. Some are good, some are bad, and some are just down right ugly. I am even considering taking an assignment back to Doha, Qatar (yeah...where I got those jerseys from) for 1 year/365 day tour to get something "I want" after that.

Well...here's where I want your help. I have developed a friendship with many members on here and wouldn't mind going some place with a nice M247.com family already set up there...so if you live close and/or around any of these places PLEASE chime in your thoughts!! As many of you know, it'll be the first time (my VERY Amercanized) wife gets to go to the states and I'd prefer the big city rather than small town with plenty of stuff for us to do etc.

Ok...here's my choices:
ANDREWS AFB, MD (DC people, what's the deal?)
MCCONNELL AFB, KS (Wichita, KS NOT Witchita Falls, TX)...not sure about this one, but read up on it on wiki...looks like it may be ok)
MCGUIRE AFB, NJ (15 miles from Trenton...I have been to McG for a week before...it was ok...NY/NJ people...thoughts?)
SCOTT AFB, IL (No clue about the area...St. Louis is 20 miles away)

1-2-3-GO!

Have you looked at Witchta Falls, Tx(Sheppard AFB)? Its a small quite town but not far from Dallas either.

I have & wouldn't mind going there...however Shep is not on my selection list.
The 4 listed are the only ones open.
So yeah...the AF releases this info and they say pick your choices from best to worst.

Edit: I used to live in KS before but not witchita, ks and I didnt much care for the people in Garden City, KS.

I would pick Andrews. it would give you the perfect location to tour all of DC and indoctrinate your beautiful new wife to American History. Just imagine her face when she sees all that is Washington DC with the Smithsonian, and all the monuments. You are pretty close to New York, Philly and a host of other great cities.

Hmmm...yes. The job for me would be pretty good also. Most likely, they'll stick me in Presidential Support. So, that's long hours and a lots of work...(spin)
My wife would dig the area for sure. But we both hate the cold. And I've passed through DC in the winter...lol.

I want to get some answers from people who actually live in the cities listed. C'mon folks...how often do you get to participate in the potential life changing outcome! :p

Use the polls too.

Well, if you are looking for a career post service, McGuire and Andrews are both solid bets. Most of the big DOD contractors are in the Cherry Hill NJ area (I used to work for one, in fact.) or the DC area. DC gives you your best shot at employment. There are a lot of contractor hubs out there.

Sean, that's what i'm talking about. Post career employment choices are a definite plus. Guessing you probably lived around the DC area then. Pros/cons?

Illinois maybe a great choice for me also. USTRANSCOM & HQ AMC are both there @ Scott (the upper reachings of my career field) & it's a huge hub of career progression after the service also. What's the deal with the area etc.?
Pros vs. Cons

Thanks for hitting the poll and dropping the answers so far guys...I know it's a holiday weekend (Enjoy!). Hoping this kicks off when people start heading back to work etc.

DC all day way man!!!!

Vote.

I'm going to actually update my preferences to reflect the votes on this poll...in order from the #1 choice to the #4. So..the people get to "decide" where Phil goes next...final discretion lies with the AF of course. ;)

DC is up there man!

I live in DC, but grew up in Philly. Go to Jersey. In the middle between New York and DC. Housing is more affordable and life is more relaxed, then in DC.

Plus with McGuire you could live in PA or Jersey. WIth DC you need to watch were you live in and around more then JErsye

Thanks for your input Kiwi 6. So you're basically saying the areas around McGuire are better to live in than DC...I'm assuming you are referring to crime etc.?

I really enjoyed my brief stay in Jerz, but hated it's 'jug handles'...what's with not being able to make a u-turn business!? Plus all the Italian restaurants...yo...that was crazy good.

I actually lived in Philly. Most of the big boys (NGC, Lockheed etc) are in or around Philly. I worked for NGC outside of Philly. They have a LOT of facilities in Cherry Hill NJ. A lot of ex Navy guys etc etc. Philly is cheaper than DC, but there is also less to do. Traffic isn't as bad as DC either. Plus you could live in a nice Jersey suburb somewhere, and that's not so bad.
