Little help with Wife's '02 Protege

I posted this in the 2nd Gen by accident

Replaced Wifey's brakes over the weekend, also rotated the tires.

Question is, before when she went to slow down you can hear something almost founds like something rubbing when she slows down.

I replaced the pads because they were low, but you can still hear it as well as feel it on the passenger side.

My friend thinks its a tire.

Is there anything I can check?

I also noticed theres a hole in the boot where the brake caliper squeezes in. I doubt this is a problem, I realize it holds grease but it shouldn't affect anything since it's DRY Greese correct?

Help?

well, i dont know much about brakes, but i thought there was a advisory for SOME calipers seizing, causing the brake pade to drag on the rotor.

Also, one of my friends recently painted his calipers and accidently tore the rubber boot. he bought a new one, they are pretty inexpensive. One only cost him about $45 (cdn.)

I replaced my front caliper boots and piston seals. I don't think it's a dry grease.

Basically any dirt that passes through that boot can reach your piston seal and that would be very bad.

I will hopefully soon post up a how to on replacing the front caliper boot and seals.

As for the rubbing, the pads probably need to be broken in a bit. If there's no vibration then you've got less to worry about.

Did you install everything back the way it was? i.e. the return spring?

Hey guys thanks for the replies.

As for the $45 That seems a bit much for this TINY TINY boot. I mean literally this thing is tiny.

I did put back those clips, as they told me if I didn't I might hear some clattering.

You can feel it a little bit either way not so much just in driving but also downshifting it just is felt more when your going at slower speeds.

Anyone have a pic of that boot?

The anti-rattle clips that are on the top and the bottom of the pads, between the bracket and pads can break easily and rub into the rotor. It's a pretty common occurance.

Yup those are on there, Theres not really too much tension on it but I put the clip in between the top and bottom of the pads and the top.

Plus it only seems like the passenger wheel thats doing this?

The $45 was for a entire seal kit. i think it the large seal, the small seals, bleed valve, as well as a few other parts. i dont think you can get the parts seperately.

OMG That sucks.

Well I don't think it's that boot, I guess the one way I could try is to flip the tires around, I wish I had something other than that damn scissor jack though :(
