List Of Problems?

awww... poor p5's people ripping em apart.. hhaha... I love my car everytime i get in it i actually smile. but if there were some things i would change it would be....
1. wierd creeking inside (mine was the driver seat that i dismantled and lubed and it stopped)
2. deeper cup holders.
3. outside noise.
4. more power.... however i like that there is so much after market stuff you can do to tune it... so then we can make them OUR cars... soo rad.
5 I LOVE MY CAR...

Hahaha, I can see you guys didn't read my book of problems.

But to LittleRedWagon, I did take my cushions out but the bump is still there. Hmmmm...Maybe I'm doing it wrong. I guess I'll have to check it out again and get back to you.

And also, trust me on this. I wouldn't trade my P5 for anything in the world!!! Just some minor problems. Dat's all.

There is a rear cupholder you can purchase from Mazda, I just can't think of the P/N at the moment. And when you guys are folding the seats down are you fliping the rear cushions up, that allows the rear seat backs to lay flat. You can even remove them if neccesary.

The only real comlaint I have is that my drivers side window chatters when I roll it up sometimes, but I siliconed it and it's ok now.

I'll get back to ya' on the rear cupholder thing

they should fix the rust spots u get on the rotors after a night of rain. stock wheels should have been 17's. hello. could i get a little bigger light in the hatch and a cupholder that will hold the jumbo super quencher from the gas station -=)
that is all.
John

Since we are being nit picky, did anybody else notice that our cars don't have an idiot light that tells you when the windshield washer fluid is low? Not that I really care, just thought I'd point it out.

Hummm....am I wrong or what....But I do have one on my canadian 2k3 p5 :D

Problems? I find my engine very noisy when it's cold....
and that's about it....some minor things i dont like the way the unlock/lock siwtch, wich i think it's placed in a weird angle. I wished it had lock/unlock switch on every door......but hey, there's nothing perfect!

oh, i love my car...and my gf is jealous!! :D

I would have to agree with the cold start noise....sounds like a diesel truck!!!
I've only had it a week and took it back in for the noise - thought the oil was low!!
They told me it was normal - and you guys just backed it up!

Well, the biggest thing that I see here is not that we are being nit picky about what is wrong with our cars, its what we fill would make the next model that much better. If you don't improve, you will just loose customers. This is the type of thing that Mazda needs to take a look at. These are the comments that the people that drive there cars make. And yea, I could get into a 60,000 dollar car or a 200,000 dollar car and still find things that I think the dam engineers should put a little thought into.

And yea, if you want something that bad, you can probably make it yourself with a little thought. Install a light in the glove box, install a second light in the cargo area. Install a 115v outlet in the dash. What ever you want.

i have no complaints! i love mp p5, and have enjoy improving on a great little car. the handling is outstanding! the addition of the turbo will make this one sweet ride! joe

I just bought a 2003 PR5 last month, silver. I didn't any options on it at all, except for the rear bumper guard because I transport equipment to gigs frequently.

I LOVE MY CAR.

I do have a certain amount of perspective on the PR5 - my wife has a 99 Protege LX, and I can clearly see many of the engineering improvements Mazda has made to this line of cars. They really skimped out on some things on the Protege to make it cheaper... like:

1) Excessive amounts of exterior noise - in my wife's car, half the time I can't even tell what's on the radio at a reasonable volume when we're on the highway going 75-80.
2) Cheap door locks? Anyone notice this on the Protege? The interior of the locks seems to be plastic or -really- cheap metal, and it falls apart over time. She can't even use the key in any of her locks now (thank god for keyless entry).
3) Crappy interior controls - a la the "slider" that alternates between fresh and recirculated air. I know 5 Protege owners that have had this break...

You get the idea - Mazda has really improved these things for the current model years.

I do have the following concerns about my PR5 after 2500 miles:

1) Assorted weird rattling mentioned already in here (cargo area, and undercarriage, anyone get this one?).
2) Whistling noise at > 70mph or so.
3) LAME cargo light that needs to be switched on. The first time I opened my hatch was at night, and I was going, :wtf: no cargo light???
4) Few people will likely notice or appreciate this, but the pedals are not conveniently mounted for heel-toe shifting techniques. Guess I have to get new pedals.

Overall, like I said, I love the car.

I think we all need to keep in mind that the engineering concept of Mazda seems to focus on making cars that will provide a thrilling driving experience for motorsports enthusiasts. How many other car manufacturers have the balls to keep developing something like the rotary engine? How many other manufacturers have an entire line of passenger cars all of which you look at go, "Man, I want to race that thing."?

Ya know? :)

i guess there will always be things you wished were better made or put together. i think for the money we paid we got a real decent car, with some potential! i just love drving it.

It doesn't have to be switched on. On mine, I just leave the switch in the on position and it shuts off when the door is closed. Or at least I hope it does! (car battery hasn't died even after sitting a week).

ya, i thought the sam. i'll have to check today, take out the lid and shut the rear hatch and see if the light goes out???

My '02 Pro5's cruise shuts off when I turn the headlights on. Has anyone else had this problem? I've installed LED side marker and brake lights, could this somehow be the problem?
As for things that could be improved upon:
Agree with the pedals being too close,
The seat needs to be able to go back farther and the steering wheel needs to be farther towards the driver, I'm 6'+ and with the seat as far back as it will go it's hard to reach the wheel comfortably.
Agree with the Autostick shifter problem.
Agree with the seats collecting anything that touches them.
The engine noise and vibration is just too much!
Need to be able to turn foglights on WHENEVER I want to.
Stereo sucks.
Need MORE POWER !!!
Foglights get cracked too easily. One already busted the other one chipped.

Other than that I love the car. On of the sharpest cars I've ever owned!

Love the car, but I guess I had some expectations getting it new. Like no weird noises.
Things that shouldn't be wrong, that annoy(of course they annoy, especially since car is less than a year old):
1.Creeking driver's seat-have to lube it up
2.Panel to the left of front passenger's foot ratles and makes noise -loose
3.The paint job sucks. I'm extra careful to not drive behind boulder flicking semis and SUVs at high speeds and when I got my car I had them put on the extra Armour coating over it which didn't help much. Still, I have deep nicks in the paint, very annoying.
4.Collecting of dust and stuff on seats. Yeah, whatcha gonna do? I still thoroughly vaccum my interior once every few months anyway so it's just another thing to clean.
5.Shallow cup holder. Eh, they fixed it for 2003 and I got 2002 so I'll just suck it up.

Things that could have been better:
1.Light in glove box would help
2.Cupholders in back
3.Side mirrors that go out farther, it barely covers my blind spot
4.Power-I envy the VWs, where VW has a bunch of engines that they can pull from and put in most of their lines of cars (ie. Jetta has 1.8,1.8T,V6). We should've had a choice of engine, that would've been great

I still love the car though, every car has it's little things that go wrong.
