Liquid to Air intercooler

a TMIC still eventually reaches a point where it cant do what a FMIC can do. it looks intense and sounds cool on youtube though i want it.

a top mount air to water would be a major upgrade over an air to air top mount. air to water has a tendency to sustain higher hp, so other mods will always be supported. the main thing is that it will be more maintenance than air to air. more pay-out, but more maintenance also.

a little on the pricey side, pluss youd have to mount a coolant tank, but that fairly easy if you have the room, but just like the air to air they all have limitations to how much hp you want but definatly a good investment, if you can afford the long term expenses as well. I'm looking at puttin one one the galant, but like I said before pricey. lol

I E-mailed them a few days ago and this is what they sent me if any of you guys want an update:

Hello,

Thanks for your interest. We are almost done working on a better, more
efficient system. It should be ready within 2 weeks from now if all goes
well. More details will soon be released on the forums. Please stay tuned
for more details.

This is from another Forum and another member just as interested as us. This is what his Email stated.

Hello Andy,

Our water intercooler setup has got many modifications in order to improve its efficiency, cost, appearance and ease of install. If all goes well, the final product should be ready within 2 weeks from now. I will be removing our actual setup from the website in the meantime. Our new setup features a slightly different intercooler for more hood clearance. There will also be a SS heat shield to keep heat soak away from the intercooler itself, along with a larger, more efficient heat exchanger. I wasnt 100% happy with the old design so we started from scratch again. I simply want to make sure you get the best possible setup from Turbine Tech. Trust, me, itll be well worth the wait.

It's not exactly a top mount, in the sense that an air-air intercooler is. The air cooler sits over the engine, so that the piping can be kept to a minimum (low lag). Water is then pumped to a heat exchange that usually sits in front of the radiator to cool the water.

A well designed water-air intercooler can get BATs down below ambient temp, which is awesome and something no air-air intercooler (front mount or otherwise) can do! There is more room for error though and the unit needs to be sized appropriately, or it can wind up being an inter-heater!

These guys seems to know what they are doing though. Ask about temp logs showing IAT, ambient temp and BAT and you will get a good idea whether this is worthwhile or not. (nana)

Well, and air-water intercooler SHOULD be the most efficient. Considering H2O has the highest specific heat of any other liquid... that's why they use it to cool nuclear reactors - why not our 'speeds?? Even computers that are water cooled are more efficient than computers with standard fans.

Considering H2O has the highest specific heat of any other liquid...
Actually, ammonia has a higher specific heat (that's why it was one of the first refrigerants). Water is commonly used in component cooling because it does have a fairly high specific heat (well, it is the baseline of 1 at least), has an excellent flow rate, responds well to pressure changes, is abundant, and remains non toxic while doing it's job. When implemented properly a water cooling system will move right around 4 times the heat air will (specific heat of air is .24). Science class is over, back to the topic at hand... sorry about that.

What is the pressure drop on the linsdeny tubes? I could not find it on the website. Very neat product.

Hey
just as a heads up. I ask Turbinetech when their liquid to air intercooler was coming out this was there reply:

"Thank you for your email and your interest in our products. We are into the
final stages of releasing our MS6 liquid intercooler set up. We will be
setting up a group buy shortly for the benefit of the Mazdaspeed community
with a substantial discount. More details will follow shortly. Please stay
tuned.

Best regards

Nice. I heard they were completely re-designing the intercooler with a more efficient one.

It's a good thing that I'm in Iraq right now. If i wasn't I do think that I would actually taken out the time for this stuff.

Back to the email reply; I wish I would have ask for specifics on the TMIC. I know that the sell price last noted on the website was $899 CAN which is in the ball park of $730 USD. So if there are talking about big discount I'm hoping that its in the low $500 to $600 mark. But then again it might not be. Only time will tell the story on this one. We'll all fine out once they post the group buy
