lightning and GT get passed by MSP

To illustrate my point further... which would you pick in a race? A Vortech Mustang or an M3?

EDIT: Sorry accidently used the wrong tuner name with the mustang the first time.

In my opinion, the MSP is great at high speed corners where you have to brake before/during turn in and then just throw it in there (the kink at Road America). It is bad at long, slow corners that need throttle at the apex into a straight (turn 2 Gingerman, the Carousel at Road America).

Yeah, i guess thinking about it I agree... i was thinking more of anything you have to power out of... if you allow throttle steering, then the RWD guys get away with rotating the car that way and are often a little quicker in those cases because of the rotation...

why are you going to be at Road American in October btw??? I live in the area so I may have to make it up if I'm free.

so how many turns at gingerman do you think the msp can handle better than the gt? (granted same driver same skill...lets not go there again please)
educate my since i am a keyboard racer.

Equivalent tires and a tight enough turn... yes (if the GT doesn't throttle steer the rear end around.. something obviously the MSP can't do)... but in any wider radius turn... not a chance in hell... there are certain types of turns each car is going to be better at... you should know and be able to admit that a corvette will get out cornered by a MSP in a lot of different turns, but in others the corvette will murder the MSP...

Turns 4, and the 7-8-9 complex.

Turn 4 can be taken flat out in a FWD car, so you're flat out from exit of 3 until the braking for 5.

A GT probably can't without getting the back end out. So, you gotta lift. Rear engine, lift too much, and she spins.

Gets back to my point about driver skill. If Schumy is driving, the GT would be faster. If any one of us... I'd take the FWD car.

7-8-9, I could take it flat out when the car was stock. From the exit of 6 until the braking zone of 10.

The power stabilizes the car through the transitions.

A RWD car would have to lift, and that in itself means you have to slow down.

I was DESTROYING cars in the 7-8-9 complex with a stock Focus. Including a WRX driven by a friend who is equally skilled as myself.

For the record, I ran a 1:45.8 with just springs, bars, konis and RA-1s and 130crank.

The GT and Lightning were turning 1:47's-ish.

Wow, this thread really took off. But it certainly does illustrate the fact that Reputation Points don't mean s***.

All that's going on now is bench racing. Get out to the track.

That track is badass !!!! do we have anything in TX. like this????

Cones are not tracks? So when something isn't a composition of turns and straights it's not a track... how about a "track" like International Speedway in Shawano, WI that is actually a national level go-kart track... but is used for car racing often as well... Last race an NSX and corvette were out there and got just throttled by STI's, Evo's, Mini's, and yep.. Protege's... But that's not a "track" I suppose because it's meant for go-kart's...

Looks like a "track" to me:

Wow thrillride, way to be an asshat. You could be in a sprint car and wes could run you into the ground. Don't spout bulls*** to people that you can't back up. Your WRX, by the way, I ruin them on autocross and on track days. One of the worst handling pigs on earth. Why don't you buy a GSX and talk more s*** while your at it?

Not to validate anything ThrillRide has said but you must autocross in a slow region because WRX's dominate STX nationally and there are a few really good drivers up here that beat me all the time.

Take it to the track, bench racing is stupid. That's the bottom line.

ThrillRide you sound more and more a few other forum members who switched over the WRX's. I won't drop names but they know who they are. Anyways just because u have a WRX does not mean u have some ego trip. You sound like a total idiot with ur statement of GT vs MSP on r componds who will win. WTF kinda s*** is that.

First of all Ford GT's tires are rated at 215 mph. that is why is governed at 205. Because it very hard to engineer a tire that wide and that durable, the rubber compond had to be stiffened in order to accomidate the high speeds. Which mean lateral G handling was giving up. This was spoken by the chasis designed of the Ford GT(guest speaker) with a Ford GT at the Georgia Tech Auto Show. If you want to know more about the Ford GT. Everything on the car expect the struts, tires, body panels and suspension arms came from a existing Ford or ford partnered brand. The car was not road tested for handling it was actually a very rushed production 2 or less year in the making. So it does not suprise me that a MSP which is a road tested and tuned car by mazdaspeed with r componds can pass a Ford GT on a short tight and technical track where the ford GT can't utilized its speed as the major factor.

Damn, going back an reading this, it seems like everyone's e-dick is on hard. Wesman II, great track vids, Turf, always impartial as ever. Thanks for that. Thrillride, I'll see you at the next meet. Everyone sit back, grab a ******* beer, and STFU!! Pretty please!

I own a WRX as a daily driver also, and it's not the greatest car either. Amazing high speed commuter, but it's lacking in turn in response, the shifting is attrocious, and the lag... oh my God! Every car has it's vices.

NoClue.... well your name says it all. ;) Sorry, but what you wrote is completely wrong.

There are a lot of partsbin bits and pieces on the GT, but not what you suggest. The steering column is from a Focus. The vents are from a Cougar. But that's about all I can place. The chassis/frame is not only new, it's got ground breaking technology. The control arms are all new. The hubs are probably new, the brakes definitely are. Transmission is new. Seats, most of the interior. etc. etc... it's only the little inconsequential bits that are from other Fords.
