light sensor question

In the owners manual it says to not use glass cleaner near the light sensor and the SCBS sensor, does this mean on the inside of the vehicle? Can I still clean the outside of the windshield full coverage with glass cleaner? I imagine the sensors are inside the vehicle.

While I know what you are referring to Rafale, I am actually interested in the answer to this as well. I didn't happen to notice that in the owners manual, but then I didn't read it cover to cover either. This seems to be an odd statement if it is there - how are we to clean the windshield? I would think that the glass being dirty would be worse for those sensors.

I don't find that warning specific to the SCBS sensor. What I find in my owners manual (page 102 here) is under Mirrors and it says is "Do not use glass cleaner or suspend objects on or around the light sensor. Otherwise, light sensor sensitivity will be affected and may not operate normally." I can't upload pics, but there's a pic of the mirror and an interior sensor.

Under SCBS it says "Do not apply stickers to the surface of the windshield near the laser sensor (including transparent stickers)." Also, interestingly, it says, "The laser sensor includes a function for detecting a soiled windshield and informing the driver, however, depending on the conditions, it may not detect plastic shopping bags, ice or snow on the windshield." But as far as cleaning it, the only thing I could find (p. 206) was "Always keep the surface of the windshield around the laser sensor clean to assure proper operation of the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system."

So I would think you're good to clean the outside of the windshield.

I can't upload pics but you can follow the link to the online manual and see them on the pages I indicated.

well I have a 2 things hanging from my mirror and I tinted the top 3 inches of the wind shield and no problems or issues to date
