Wow, tirerack never ceases to amaze me. I was amazed by them before now that they have tire weights, sre you kidding me!? that is crazy. Imagine how much work it has to be to weigh every single size and model of tire.

I'm impressed that they thought to include the information on the website. I just wish they would change the search engine so you don't have to enter the car and can just do height, width, offset, color, and yes, weight would be nice. I know one of the reasons for needing the car is to verify the bolt pattern, but they seem to have predetermined size limits that don't always match up to what we think will fit. I guess it needs an option to over-ride those limits.

These lead wheels are made that way to be strong and not bend, at least thats what I have heard.

Anybody know what tires are lightweight and what are heavy ones?

+1

i can personally attest to the strength of the stockers as compared to cheap sport editions. i bent a winter rim (read: even though it had way more sidewall to protect it) within a month, whereas my stockers are still pristine after 5 months of driving prior to that.

as far as lightweight tires go, i would avoid searching for tires based solely on weight. the first thing i would go for is traction performance, and then if i came down to a dead heat between two tires, i would pick based on weight from there. the most savings you can really hope for in a tire is like 2-3 lbs, and at that point, the better traction would trump that in a heartbeat! =d

They do the vehicle linked rim sizes because those are the rims that they test fit to work on that vehicle. Yes there are some wheels that would work that they do not list but overall I am impressed with the site. Just think about all the different makes and models of cars that they have to test fit wheels onto. It must be alot of work.

Oh, ok I really just clicked on one tire to check the weight thing I haven't got in depth with it yet.

I found my wedsports in the right size, i just had to search through the rx8 wheel selections. Generally if tire rack does not list the wheel wieght steer clear of that wheel. If they are a respectable wieght it will be listed.

FWIW, 24 lbs for a stock 18 is not heavy. It's heavy in comparison to what's out there, but for OEM isn't not bad at all.

my te's are light enough for me. they feel lighter with the tire than my stock rim does without the tire mounted.. oh and i dont run wheel weights for balancing because i want to save every ounce hahah jk
