Light in Gear Selector Knob

Our 08 CX-9 has over 106,000 miles on it and has been a real champ as far as any major problems. Probably the most economical car we've ever had. Recently, we've noticed a flashing blue light coming from the gear selector knob at night, when it's really dark. It is intermittent and does not always occur, and we wonder if there's a little diode that needs to be changed (or better grounded). If so, how do I get into it? It's not all that annoying, but nevertheless, it would be nice to get it operating right again.

Are you sure its coming from the knob? There's that diode above the console that shines down. Is that what is flashing?
