I'll be heading up that way tonight so I'll see whats up. I'm not sure what time my friend actually gets off work in order to be home. Might need to kill some time.
I had a busy weekend with the old gal. I went to Summit Racing for the 3rd time this week to finally get some exhaust clamps that will fit. Finally found some that will work and got the MagnaFlow cat all clamped up and is good to go. I'm much happier now, it took out almost all the raspiness and quieted down a wee bit. There was a new exhaust rattle but it was just a piece of metal from the clamp that I siliconed so it won't rattle anymore. I love RTV silicone. Haha!
I also wrapped my header with some header wrap. I did it with the header still on the motor. It took some patience and was a little tight in some spots but still came out pretty well I think. I put a couple miles on it and it's starting to color nicely. It smelled like burnt pancakes when I was driving around and it was cooking all the water out of it. Pew.
Also kept getting a CEL since I took the intake mani off to swap out the rear motor mount. I figured it was another vacuum leak like when I took it off for my VTCS removal. I started poking around and forgot to reconnect a vacuum line to the cruise control. Doh! Easy fix though.
Thanks again for the header wrap and catch can, Jasen!!!
I picked up some Recaro Evo8 seats from another 247 member for a great price. They really fit the P5 great and are very comfortable. Now I can take corners even quicker without sliding across the cabin. Let's face it, P5 and MSP seats just suck.
I removed the rear seats to sell my leather Katzkin seats but the buyer just wanted the covers. So I thought about putting my cloth seats back in but I rarely have passengers (other than my bass guitar case) in the back, so I'll leave them out.
I also finally got around to painting my brake calipers. Black of course, because anything other than silver or black to me seems pretty ricey to me.
I bought an air diversion plate from that other Mazda forum and painted it wrinkle black. It turned out pretty poorly so I'll strip it and start over this weekend. But the fitment of the piece is really nice and I dig it.
looking good! can't wait for a ride in those seats!
and yeah, wrinkle might not be the best idea since it's a very level and flat piece of metal... i'd repaint it the same semi-gloss black that you have your valve cover in! matching is always nice!
Now I'm just saving up money for the Hyperdrive even at Mid-Ohio August 14th. I missed out on the last Mid-Ohio event to pick up my Recaros in PA. I've been watching everyones videos from the last event and I'm really excited to do it myself. A little nervous about my driving and my car but that's why I'll have an instructor with me on track. I'm really stoked though.
and you won't have a problem at all!!! you're a good driver and even the instructor i was with said my car was very well balanced and i did a great job!
you'll be fine! and you'll have a lot of fun! (even tho i had to get up at 4:30 to be there by 7 am for a tech inspection, lol)
