Let's pretend I wanted my exhaust pipe to stay shiny...

To keep the pipe pretty just have a cut out under the car and have the pipes for pure looks. AHAHA

The bad part is my Silver paint above the pipe gets sooty too. It's all come off so far when I scrub it, but still...

Not much you can do about it. At least that s*** doesn't stick, usually comes off pretty easily.

I used stainless steel polish and it doesn't get dirty anymore... at least for now. And if it does, just wipe it with a used rag.

+1

Spray stainless steel cleaner on the pipe, then scrub it with steel wool for about 30 sec. Wipe it with a wet cloth...the soot practically falls off. It's beautiful now!!

(MS3) Still pretty new to this car - about 2500 miles now. Reading a whole lot here, it seems this car runs rather rich. I've always had turbo cars and never had this issue. What, if any, mods would make this car run a little less rich with a lesser amount of carbon build up? I washed my car and within 200 miles the exhaust pipe was black again.
I feel this is an OUTSTANDING question(2thumbs)
Bottom line, that soot is unburned, WASTED fuel

the car is poorly tuned, OR overly compensated on the side of safety to the EGT(moon)

diferent side of the same coin
