Lets do it again! - GRM $2007 Turbocharged Miata Build!

I can't believe it's less than two weeks until GRM. With each incarnation of the Miata, it just gets better, more polished and the little details like the engraving just make the difference! :D

Can I donate a pair of socks? The one covering the MC resevoir looks a little old. Might want to take care of it before the concourse ;)

car is like a work of art. all carefully planned out and lots of time, effert, sweat, tears, and blood into it.....then I see a sock covering the MC....and a dirty ripped old one! lol at least go to kmart or something and buy one of those huge packs for a couple bucks. hehe

keep up the good work....and change that sock

damn dude, that new radio delete panel is the HOTNESS! I like it.

Glad she's back up and running!

Thanks guys! The socks are only temporary as the brake fluid tends to leak. Brake fluid + paint = disaster. I'll have a fresh pair of socks on the car soon :D. Fadi, yours will do as long as they're clean, lol. Fear not, though, as they will be removed for the concourse.

BTW, I hit 16 PSI today. Holy awsomeness, Batman. The logs look great too. So I'm pretty happy.

I have a question about the challenge itself, does the $2007 the price you can legally spend or how much value the car can hold. Say someone donates a set of tires, would the cost of the tire be added even though you didn't pay for it?

Free items must be included in the budget at a fair market value unless the item was offered, free, to the general public (and can be documented as such). For instance, a gentleman on the GRM board offered free race rubber to all Challenge competitors. Those tires can included in the budget for $0. However, if YOU offered ME a set of free tires, I'd have to apply a value to those tires.

The $2007 amount is the maximum one can spend, including the cost of the car. One can reclaim money by selling parts, etc. However, that reclamation value cannot exceed the purchase price of the car or $1003, Whichever is lowest.

And we look forward to seeing you in GRM again. :) Then we can say 'I know that guy! We ate hotdogs over a campfire at Road Atlanta..'

Exhausted

Truck Loaded: Check
Miata Boosting to 15PSI: Check
MegaSquirt Tuned: Check
Suspension Aligned: Check
Lack of Sleep + Stress: Check

So the Grassroots Motorsports $2007 Challenge has arrived. My budget this year totals out at $1976.12. All in all I'm fairly satisfied. Time didn't allow any paint work at all and the car could really use it. Power application is absolutely supurb, however. Boost builds at 3000RPM and is maxed by 4500. The only issue that I am currently experiencing is that the boost will build so quickly that it overcomes the tiny wastegate oriface and the boost pressure spikes and holds quite predictably. Throttle modulation is, again, a must (damnit, lol). I can easily see 19PSI, but I have the MegaSquirt set to cut fuel and spark at 15 as I haven't tuned for anything above that MAP range (nor do I want to on an original 115k mile engine). That'll prove to be a challenge in itself on the auto-x portion of the event.

Anyway, I'm operating strictly on adrenaline right now and that's about run out. I'll leave you with this note and return with results and pics from the Challenge next week! :).

Good luck kevin!

BTW, you have to be JDM and say 1bar of boost now :p

Just got off the phone with Kevin. From the sounds of it it'll be another top-10 finish! (knock on wood)...
