i am a small car enthusiast and have been wanting to drop a rotary engine into something for a while now but have always been held back by the fact that some of the best suited engines and also the dirtiest. i am talking about machines produced in the 70's and 80's. you see modified cars running these things and there is always a persistent cloud of smoke trailing behind. i have heard that new engines released into the US market are now much cleaner burning than the engines of yesterday. but they also seem to have grown larger which can be a disadvantage to some applications. is there something out there in the 150+hp category that is fairly clean burning yet fits into a vintage beetle, a spitfire, or a sunbeam?

this is my first post... thanks to all. G

Welcome to Mazda Forums, G! (hi)

Interesting question...A rebuilt refreshed 13B NA or a Renesis‎ might do the trick...I'm not a Rotary expert by any means but my belief is that a 13B NA (from the FD RX-7 - turbos removed) would have a lot of potential while a Renesis‎ should run cleaner...I would imagine that a Renesis‎ swap would be more difficult though considering its modern ecu with strict emission contols etc (unless you use an aftermarket EMS system)...?

If you keep your rotary engine in good to excellent condition just as with any engine...It will run well and NOT leave trails of oil and or smoke.

Another idea is running your rotary engine on some sort of alternative fuel..?

Just some thoughts...(bump) for additional input from my fellow Rotary Enthusiasts here on the forums...;)

Good luck and enjoy the forums! :D
