Left bolster getting wrinkled and nasty already

So I've had my ms3 for maybe 2 weeks and the leather on the left lower boltster on the driver's side is already getting wrinkled and nasty. I've been trying tactics to not put my weight on it when getting in and out of the car, but between how low the seat is and the minimal distance between the top of the bolster and the bottom of my steering wheel, I'm having little luck.

Anyone else with a GT noticing this? Any tactics you guys are using to prevent or slow its onset?

Driving me nuts because I wanted the GT but I didn't want the stupid leather trim.

I have the GT, but not the leather seats. BUT I am getting the same on the cloth seats. Wrinkles and it almost seems to be fading a bit as well. Been trying different tactics, but as you said, its hard to get out of the low seat with a different motion.

I noticed the same thing on my GT. There are two things that I have done that have nearly reversed the wrinkling effect completely. The first one is to use a bit more caution when getting in and out of the car. The wrinkling is basicly from you putting all your weight on the bolster when youre getting in and out of the car. Just stick your foot down outside the car first on exit and try not to sit directly on the bolster. When youre getting in, use the steering wheel to balance ur weight before u get all the way in. I'm not saying hurdle the bolster or anything, but just be careful.

Now if youre lazy like me, you will probly forget this a lot. So what I started doing was using leather protection armor all once every couple weeks and it really smooths out the cracks and protects the leather from my fat ass crushing it every day.

yea man u have to treat leather...get armor all and do it everytime u clean ur inside (vacuum, wipe dash etc) i treat my leather and its wrinkled but nothing serious...it fades away and gets better when u apply the treatment

Huh, alright. Thanks for all the tips.

MM3Canuck: How'd you swing a GT w/out leather? that's honestly what I want- I'm not really a leather person

Please say you are joking. Armor All will deteriorate leather. Use a quality leather conditioner like Lexol.

i used armor all.....my friend has a big tank of lexol but i have never had problems with armor, i had a 92 cadillac sedan deville with gray leather..no complaints for me...none so far on mazda either

x2

armor-all is for plastic/dashboards/vinyl... its NOT for leather use.

the chemicals actually pull the moisture FROM the material (IIRC) which is what keeps the shine.

on leather this is a big no-no. The idea is to lock the moisture in (keeping it soft and supple)

Buy a product designed for leather! It seems like normal ArmorAll would leave it greasy feeling, Im honestly not a fan of AA anymore, leaves everything greased up, I do like their tire foam though. Get some Meguiars Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner Conditionioner, I use it on my Cpu chair lol or a similar quality leather specific cleaner conditioner

trick I learned... buy the armorall towels, not the spray bottles or foam. Not only do they have less armorall in them, it helps you create a more even coat than you can achieve with the spray.

also grab a lintfree cloth (microfiber or cotton).

use the wipes to apply an even coat to the surface of your dash and other plastic (not leather) trim pieces. Immediately follow up with the towel to wipe down the surface. This leaves you with a nice semi-gloss finish that restores the dark "like-new" color to your dash BUT it isnt shiny or greasy to the touch.

I I used this technique after I banned myself from armorall for years, it started working and Ive stuck with it ever since.

*tip for this method - dont keep getting new armorall wipes when you think they are done, flip the towel and wipe again, over lapping parts already done. This helps in offering that even coat youre looking for.

Ill have to take pictures, most people dont think I use armorall because its that stealthy, but it restores the finish to my dash.

HUGE 2nd. Armor All is not even good for plastics, it's downright silly to put it on leather.

YIKES!!! Armor All on leather = pre-mature cracking just to say the least. Now Armor All Brand makes a leather treatment is that what your using or are you using the Armor All used for dash trim etc.?

I personally use Lexol only! It may be a little higher in cost but it works GREAT! I use it on my SUV as well that has three rows of leather and my seats look as good as day one. It does have an initial smell that most will hate or ignore. My trick is, I clean/detail the entire car and Lexol all the seat portions I know will not have anyone immediately sitting on. At night when I know I will not be driving the car anymore or for a day or so I put a nice liberal coat of Lexol on the drivers seat and let it sit. I complete this every two weeks and no problems what so ever.

I hope this helps and for those using Armor All on prior cars, I bet your car is/was not full leather, it's most likely Pleather (Vinyl/Leather Mix)

my cadillac was full leather...this is my first leather/cloth combined because of the middle section of the seats...my other cars were just cloth/fabric stuff

yeah guys, read the posts before u jump all over us. I believe i said Armor All leather protection - its a product for leather that just happens to be made by armor all. It actually works better than other very expensive leather care products i bought for my former car

but we were commenting on clos (who was quoted) who spoke simply of armorall...

either way, now everyone knows why you dont use regular armor all on leather seats :p

Canadian-spec has different features than US-spec. There's only one trim for the Mazdaspeed3 in Canada and it's roughly equivalent to the US Mazdaspeed3 GT trim (but the Canadian trim doesn't have leather bolsters).

Hey guy, relax. We are not calling you an idiot. Just friendly advice that was all. I'm pushing 40 years old and I don't post on this site to bash people like some of the youth. Also, I'm very aware of what detail products are out there but you never stated what Armor All product you were using and the assumption was you were using good 'Ol greasy Armor All, that's all. Enjoy the weekend. (cool)
